Default The Well Part XXIII (take 2): I'll get something right someday

If I goof, I admit it. I didn't post properly the first time, so I deleted it. If this doesn't follow protocol, I'll understand the necessary action.

So... let me get my Kevlar/Nomex undies, and then you may fire when ready.

Thanks to The Golden Boy for his invitation, and to Seymour for the tone!

Only to the extent that yours is an accurate statement of your qualities.

My wife and I travel through the tip of Paducah on our way to Nashville every year. Our daughter was learning to walk on the porch of the visitor center on the HWY last year. If we were to stop, where would you direct us to go for the best music...not the mainstream or most popular, but the place where the REAL stuff goes down?

PS...where did you find that badass Les Paul bass in your profile? Pretty sweet. You make it look like a toy.

I wish that sigpic was me. That's Gerald Jemmott, one of the baddest around. He's one of the guys whose style Jaco was trying to cop; I recall reading him admitting to that in a Bass Player "Legends Of Funk" issue.

As for my pic, click on my screen name, and see my public profile.

Now to the bass. That's a 1977 Gibson LP Triumph, the successor to the Recording model. (edit: the one in the avatar's a '72.) These were made from '71 or so to '79. This one has the same 3-point bridge as the EB series (aka "SG bass"), but the same lo-z/hi-z feature as the Recording. The control area has passive treble and bass roll-off, and the pups are 3-tap humbuckers.

BION, I found it on consignment at Bronen's music store in Hartsdale NY... don't bother looking, it's been out of business for decades. I was working at the infamous Crazy Eddie home-ent store next door, and I used to stick my head in every day. $225.00 (USD) in 1987. Don't hate me.

The tap switch and the hi-lo were both damaged in my move to Kentucky in '01 , but that bad boy never quit on me. Even on low output, I had enough juice on full tap. My repair guy (Timothy Corts, Music Zone in Lone Oak) resoldered the hi-lo (a cold solder joint on a Gibby -- imagine that!), and modified a Strat superswitch to sit in place of the original Oak-Grigsby. I've got 2 extra switch positions that do come in handy for muting between sets.

Can't find a case for it, but PM me if you see something.

    Hey gi...

Do you mind me calling you gi?

What was the most awkward or embarrassing moment you've ever had or seen?

What is your favourite main course meal?

    What is your favourite dessert?

At what time and condition are you at your most relaxed?

    How do you vent frustration?

Where can you get a bass like yours?

What would be your top two tips for person who wants to play bass?
