    Default $12,000 Really?

Hard Rock - gain on 5 - singing about good times.

Heavy Metal - gain on 10 - screaming about something.

Ok, so they're not "unmolested" as he took out the screw to see the bobbin.

Point two: I see evidence of only one bobbin being white, not both.

And for $12K, the whole guitar better come with it, AND the case.

A modern guitar, not a real 1959... right?

I'd rather get some Ants or Fralins if I wanted "pure PAF tone".

    No, a real 1959.

I realize many people are under the mistaken impression they're worth millions. What someone is willing to pay is not what something is worth, it's merely the price it was sold for.

    Yes it is.

In monetary terms at least, which is all that matters here. Your - or my - opinion on how much those pickups are worth is worth nothing. But those pickups might be worth 12K to some idiot.

I'd buy them but I already have a dozen or so. I use them mainly as fridge magnets.

    Normal going rates.

That could take your almost 100% vintage piece to 100%, and up the value 25% or more.

I never understand these threads. If people have the money and willing to pay, why does that make them an idiot?

I'd wager that the rest of us are the idiots because they obviously have tons of money to burn on vintage gear and obviously have a good career or have an inheritance that provides the funds. Sounds like a smart plan to me. I'd much rather have 12 grand to blow on some original PAFs than have to scrounge & scrape up money to purchase some aftermarkets and whine about other people's auctions on an internet forum.

I would think the only people that pay $12000 for a set of real P.A.F's are guys that own a old orignal '58 or '59 that needs replacement P.A.F's right? tell me this is true please? i cant see a owner of a $8000 RI putting $12000 P.A.F's in it?

Can you please explain how worth is determined, if not by sale price?

You're kind of disagreeing with hundreds of years of economic theory here.

You are a player or a collector.

I'm a player. And that is just effing retarded. My crappy gear sounds better than whatever voodoo that relic is supposed to have.

    OK sure thing bro

What does that make the Rev BG? He has over 450 guitars in just one storage area, and two storage areas total.

I always laught at these auctions. But those are not that silly. I once saw, late 2005 to be exact, a guy selling a xbox 360 for 1 million. He said that he will deliver the 360, dressed like santa clause on xmas eve in the 48 conus...and he would gave away a country house. NO KIDDING, I swear. We love Internet, isn't it?

Before the most recent vintage guitar price drop that set of pickups and pots would be closer to 15k...

Just the facts of life...stuff like that is not for guys like most of us on the forum stuff like is for a guy that has a 59 Burst with the original electronics thats worth 150-175k but with 12k worth of parts owuld be back up to 200-225k...

As far as value and worth whatever someone is willing to pay for a 50's burst or a Blackguard Tele or a 59 Strat or whatever is what is is worth...maybe not to you or me but there are guys out there willing to pay and there are a lot more guys out there willing to pay a quater mill for a 50's Burst than there are 50's Bursts to go around!
If you just read a post by The Guy Who Invented Fire please understand that opinions change, mind sets change and as players our ears mature...not to mention our needs grow and change. With that in mind, today I may or may not agree with the post you just read!

Actually, in basic economic terms, that IS the way prices are set. What the market bears, is what the price is. Those factors include: rarity (check!) and desirability (check). If you can find a real 1959 Les Paul for $12000, I'll sell all my gold coins for one. PM me, if you find that deal.

A self-indulgent greedy rock star prima donna.

If he played a different one every day it would take nearly three years to play every one. He is not able to do even close to that given just the logistics of getting them in/out and his recording/touring schedule.

So basically he is buying up a a bunch of cool guitars and throwing them in a shed and nobody who could/would play can do so. Seems a touch selfish and dooshy.

I'm just sick to death of greed in America. At some point you just have to ask "How much is enough?"

It's not a cure for cancer, it's not a moment you'll never forget. It may not even be magic tone. Could be crappy wind and random magnet.

I have to say...I find the seller a little less than knowledgeable and somewhat suspect.

45 sales and he calls then "double white" based on removing a screw....

If Lou wasn't vouching for this I'd call BS!!!!

(And all that goes for Slash too!)
