Those pedals were the cornerstone of guitar tones in that era. The Rockman, unfortunately, is not one of those pieces of gear. There is a reason for that, supply and demand. Most guitarists do not find the tone generated by SR&D useable or pleasing. If they did the gear would still be produced today.
To be fair, there is plenty of gear from earlier decades that is legendary but no longer produced, and enough of a fan base for the Rockman still remains for there to be people specializing in repairing them.

In the 80s I used chorus once in awhile, ut I did and still hate that kind of music, though.
I just got a very reasonably priced G-System, which will hopefully take care of it decently. I am still mourning the lack of headroom in the DC-2, but I suppose there is nothing to be done about it.

Regarding hatred, yours is certainly the majority opinion, and, if nothing else, it should pass you the orthodoxy tests for guitar forums worldwide.

Understood. However, most of the people using/owning these units are collectors or nostalgic. When is the last time a Rockman was used outside of someone's bedroom? There is plenty of gear out there that is no longer manufactured that is sought after for music production. A lot of the analogue synths come to mind, or a vintage electric piano, Wurlitzers or Rhoades. Most decent recording studios also have a vintage Fender blackface somewhere. You will not find SR&D gear in the studio or the stage. The tone just does not translate to any form of music in the past 30 years.

Make it 25 and I think we are in agreement. I still love that tone, but I have long since come to peace with the fact that my generation (and society at large, save a small niche group) does not.

Interesting discussion. I don't own nor have ever played the rack gear, but when I was in my late teens or early 20s (46 now) my older brother gave me a heavily used Rockman headphone amp.. .Soloist I think it is.. because it was shorting out and he didn't want to fix it. Even thought it didn't work I felt like I had been given the holy grail. Anyway a few years back I found it in a box and had flashbacks of how cool it sounded back in the day, I remember being so envious that he had one, I mean that sound was IT.

So being caught up in the nostalgia I sent it off to have it repaired and waited excitedly for it to come back. The day finally came and I played it for about 10 minutes before it went right back in the box lol

Well, if you want to get it out of the box I'd be happy to take it off your hands. Or send it to Vasshu the Humanoid Typhus to annoy him.

I am tempted to unload it to someone who would dig it, it is cool for what it is, but I just don't find it inspiring to play... but it does nail Scholz' tone. I normally regret selling gear, even the stuff I don't use is fun to revisit from time to time... sometimes i'm pleasantly surprised but mostly i'm reminded why it's in the box.

I would certainly be interested if you decide to do so, especially since this is a refurbished unit. One thing that can be said about these units is that they break down over time, and finding somebody to fix it near me would be impossible.

Ditto!! One of my guilty pleasures besides loving hair metal, is I also love the Rockman sound. And, Ive dreamed for years of getting an ADA MP-1 since so many guys used them back in the day. I have a Rockman headphone unit and a rack unit. (Chorus one) I almost never use the rack unit tho since I cant bypass it. Either use it, or there is no sound..
Believe me when I say that some of the most amazing music in history was made on equipment that's not as good as what you own right now.

How does the chorus units sound today, compared to other choruses out there? I've loved chorus for as long as I have known what it is, and next year, when I finally can move back from the other side of the world and hopefully will have some extra money, I hope to be able to explore the finer aspects of the effect. And yes, that includes for distorted guitars.

If it is any good, you could look into a bypass looper.

Sounds awesome! I know a guy who is selling some stuff back home. I would love to get my hands on it, but lack money and the fact that I will probably have to have all the units refurbished is hindering me, hence this thread.

There's a dude named Dave Accommando (or something) here in the states that did Rockman refurbs. Don't know if he's still in business, but if he is, he might have some refurbs for sale.

EDIT: company is called Perfect Sound Rock Refurbs.

    Also, Rockman forum here: rockman-gearup.com

Also, great info website here: www.rockman.fr
