Default This is one of the Vai tracks I most enjoyed as a kid....

....Where Vai hangs in the pocket and explores riffs and melody between assaults.... it's got a little of everything, riffs, grooves, tasty walks, even melody... and of course shreddy tappy masterbation in appropriate durations.

I think this one is under appreciated as a complete guitar performance.

Ok, thanks. Well I listened to Vai, and I would have preferred a Theobo solo HAHA. Vai is awesome, a true virtuoso. His weirdness thru the years has sometimes turned me off

I canít argue with that. I too, mostly prefer a more mainstream listening experience.
Iím more of a Satch guy than a Vai guy but they are both awesome at what they do.

I've been a big fan of that whole album for twenty-five years..not a single dud on it. I think it was one of the (if not the very) first albums I bought on CD.

While I love Vai, that love is pretty much restricted to this album & Passion & Warfare. Never could get into his Zappa-ish ultra weird stuff (having said that I can't stand Satriani at all..). But this is a damn good (make that AMAZING..) heavy rock album. More consistently awesome right through than anything Dave did with Van Halen (haha blasphemy I know..but there I said it )

Vai has some music theory books that will be released soon. My guess is they are more geared towards practical playing vs. college studies

I love that album, bought it when it first came out, saw the tour in Greensboro, NC. Yeah, I'm a Vai fanboi, he occasionally loses me with some of his more out there stuff, but everything he puts out has something great on it.

The first time I saw Vai solo was their first "warmup" show for The Ultra Zone tour, they played the Fox theater in Boulder, an old, small movie theater, I was about 6 feet from the stage. They played a bigger place in Denver the next night, then the rest of the world and we caught them again in Vegas on the return.

Not sure where this is, but it's from that tour, awesome band!

The DLR thing is something I could do without TBH. Vai was awesome back then, but DLR wasn't my fave, I will leave it at that

You should check out some other DLR solo stuff with Jason Becker etc. some songs are merely ďokĒ but all in all he put out some really solid solo material.
Keep in mind his sense of humor etc when listening. I just think if it as good time fun songs and nothing too serious.

I love DLR, he's like a real life Bugs Bunny. And his live shows were great with VH or solo.

Cant help it, it fit VH, but when the beach boys song and all that, it wasnt for me. I still tie that type of crap into what killed the guitar. Commercial garbage for the masses. But hey, that's just me. I am an old angry guy lol

You should check out Criss Oliva. An east coast guy, from Florida. Some were turned off by his brother's voice. His lineage eventually became Trans Siberian orchestra. His protege is Chris Caffery, another great player that most people in the States never heard of. Chops out the you know what

I'm definitely familiar with Savatage and Jon and Criss, great stuff, WKNC in Raleigh played some great stuff back in the 80s and I got turned on to a lot of good music. It's all ice cream, and it's okay to enjoy different flavors, or not, one is not better than the other.

But no, the DLR stuff with Vai and Sheehan did not kill "rock guitar', in fact I think it was more on the positive side. It was more the fluff bands (won't name names), which opened the door for grunge, and being able to dress like a guy again.
