    Default StewMac to sell Duncans

Got the email this morning across all my various accounts - StewMac will now be carrying Seymour Duncan pickups at street prices (same as on the Duncan website). Is this going to affect legit Duncan dealers? We shall see....

If they've made the arrangement to sell pickups, would that not make StewMac a 'legit' dealer?

    Does $10,000 of stock qualify?

Then if you're a dealer, you were required to sign and return to SD the MAP agreement before your were approved. Making your original questions moot

My point is that competition is already fierce, and this just adds another hurdle - one that has more visibility than me.

I got that email too. I also didn't realize that you were a dealer. It's too bad that there couldn't be some little indicator in the icons around your avatar to show that. Like a mini-Duncan logo or something.

Your value-add is you can install them, so its not total competition. You have an angle to exploit.

I once found a guitar amp in the garbage, a Peavey Studio 110. It caught fire at the first gig I played it at.. But it was at the end of it, thank god.

If they are the same prices as every other dealer, it doesn't affect anyone negatively IMO.

I don't use Stew-Mac unless necessary, because their "whole thing" is kind of cookie cutter/McDonalds-like to me (coincidentally almost the same name), and their shipping prices are nuts. So FWIW, I won't be buying any Duncans there. I buy most of my Duncans and DiMarzios from Sweetwater.

I like some of their pickguard materials, which seem made just for them. The .083" white single ply is great (right thickness for '59–'63 Tele guards, which I can't find anywhere else), and the .106" (or is it .104"?) W/B/W is a great material, also only available there AFAICT. Right thickness for wide-bevel '60s-style W/B/W (circa '65–'67) Fender guards.

If eBay and Amazon didn't kill your business then StewMac won't either. I almost never go to their site unless I just can't find an item anywhere else. If I had a shop down the street that sold Duncans then I would just drive over there for free and get my pickups now.

I do like some of their specialized tools. I got the precision Dremel router base and just recently, the trio of guitar wrenches. But I'd never buy pickups from them. I've got a couple local dealers that I've have a good rapport with and get good deals.

Stewmac is great for tools/small parts you can't get anywhere else, not for pickups. As mentioned, you can buy pickups online all day for MAP except with free shipping and no tax, Stewmac will probably tack on another $10 for shipping. You can usually beat MAP if you talk to someone, MAP only refers to the price that can be publicly advertised to the best of my understanding.

For those who don't know, MAP pricing is Minimum Advertised Price....

Meaning legit dealers can be undercut on price by sellers who bootleg their items.

It’s too bad we don’t have a list of active members here who are dealers.
    Oh no.....

MAP is MAP. Add to that StewMac will rape buyers on shipping and there you go.

Stewmac overcharges for their "Golden Age" pickups so I would hate to see the markup on Duncan's. But there's a price break if you order 30 at a time!

I've only used Stew Mac once and the service was unbelievably terrible, to the point where it seemed like they were trying to scam me.

They charged an outrageous amount for shipping and then didn't provide a tracking number. When I called them out on it after not receiving the package for nearly a month, they said to wait until it had been more than a month. Then after it had been a month they told me they'd reship it expedited, free of charge, but then charged me for it without telling me.

So... **** Stew Mac. Use literally anything else.

Wow thats a pretty good stock, Most guitar shops I know probably have less than 1k worth of duncans on hand at any time.
