On most Telecasters you can remove the pickguard and adjust the neck pickup up or down. Remember, on older and reissue instruments that the neck pickup many be connected to a capacitor when the lever switch is in the front position. It will make the neck pickup sound very dark and lacking brightness. If the pickup is too loud when blended with the bridge pickup and can be lowered to reduce output. If the bridge pickup is too weak it can be raised closer to the strings to increase output. Make sure the bridge saddles are adjusted correctly and to the proper string harmonics, this can make a difference to the output of a pickup. The position of the bridge pickup in the ferrous bridge plate is critical to the tone and output of a pickup. The steel bridge plate can effect the magnetic field of a pickup. Changing the location or height of the pickup can change the position of the expanded magnetic field through the coil.
