Description

The STC-3M3 is the 3-knob version of our Music Man Tone Circuit, and has a stacked bass/treble control, a midrange control, and a master volume with a push/pull for our proprietary Slap Switch. The treble control can produce a wide ranging, extremely usable response that is brilliant, yet smooth without being brittle. The lows are deep, clear, and tight. The mids range from ultra-smooth to punchy and all points in between. The Slap Switch is a push/pull located on the volume control. Pulling up on the volume knob will engage the special EQ contour Voiced specifically for slap playing. The two small trim pots on the circuit board can be tweaked to preset the slap contour EQ just the way you want. Combine with our Music Man replacement pickups for a complete setup.

The STC-3M3 is specifically designed for Stingray basses but will also work in any bass that is equipped with one passive pickup and has space for 3 control knobs (volume/slap switch, midrange, concentric bass/treble control) and a single 9v battery in the control cavity.  Two 9v batteries can be wired together in series with for added headroom.

We include all necessary mounting hardware: high-quality potentiometers on pre-wired harness; battery clip; stereo jack; and black anodized, knurled, dome-style knobs. NOTE: this preamp is designed for use with a standard 2-coil Music Man style pickup and will NOT work properly if combined with a 3-coil Sterling style pickup.

I purchased this to pair

I purchased this to pair with the SMB 4d to bring some life to my OLP. I did have to route a cavity to place the preamp and 9volt. It sounds fantastic! There is so much thump and punch compared to the stock stuff I had in there! I would make changes in my placement of the cavity, but would definitely buy again!

The pre amp and 90's

The pre amp and 90's pick up were put on a Music Man Sterling I got a few months back. The instrument itself, for the price, was great for what we paid for it. However, I have Seymour Duncan pickups on a few other low cost but decent guitars and basses now. The latest one, being the one you are asking about made a $249.00 bass sound like a $2,000.00 bass. I am very impressed and happy with my purchase(s) We put Quarter Punders on a Squire Tele I got for $100.00 and my first bass, an Ibenaz Gio 200. I also have a fretless Vintage Squire that we put Heavy Weather pickups on. Each of those instruments have such better( they were already OK) tone now I recommend anyone that you can't go wrong with Seymour Duncan pickups. Thank you so much for making your products available to the average Joe as well as great musicians for a great price. Thank you again

I had purchased the active

I had purchased the active preamp and alnico pickup SMB-4A to upgrade a Sterling Stingray. The preamp itself was larger than what was originally in the bass and the control cavity had to be enlarged some. The wiring harness also came with a lot of length, so it really fits in there tight. Other than that, it was a fairly easy installation with only a handful of solders. It sounds fantastic. The electronics that came with the bass were a boomy, noisy mess. The new preamp really cleaned up the tone and having a pot to control the mids added a lot of versatility. I am very happy with my purchase now that it's installed.

This was an easy install

This was an easy install with everything I needed to do it with, and the sound and tone capabilities are great. I really give the preamp and controls a thumbs up for taking my bass to another level. thanks

Great

I've been playing bass for over 20 years now. Over the years I've owned and played quite a few different instruments with different pickups...from cheap Chinese stuff to Bartolini's... This by far has my favorite tone of them all. I do have the pickup and preamp in a "one piece bass guitar" I (video on youtube, it's my first build other than kits so be forgiving 😉) made from one continuous piece of stunning figured Hawaiian Koa. I have one more slab so I'm deciding what to do with it now. I might make a bass, I might make a guitar, I might just sell it because I've discovered the board is worth a few thousand dollars just how it is considering how rare it's become... Especially boards the size and thickness that these were/are... But it makes sense the are probably around 100 years old... Wow 🤯😳!!! Did I talk about my bass enough lol. Just get the pickup you won't be disappointed. I assure you. The sound of my bass literally brings a smile to my face everytime I hear it. I can't help it. It just sounds so sweet.

Superb preamp

This preamp sounds really good. The frequency points are very well chosen. Lows are deep but remain tight, sparkling highs and now having a mid band is icing on the cake. There’s a quite a few options for Stingray style preamps out there but I’m very happy with my choice. I purchased the package with the pickup. It’s priced competitively and perform spectacularly. Great job Seymour Duncan.
