The 84-50 was American made and of a higher quality. Circuit wise, the two amps are nearly identical, but there were some differences in the voicing. Even the various versions of the 84-40 were voiced differently. None of the differences were anything major. The 84-50 had a different driver stage that was lower in gain, but more linear.
