Description

The Alnico 2 Pro for Strat set uses flat (non-staggered) hand ground alnico 2 rod magnets and heavy Formvar mag wire with a special wind pattern to produce that classic bouncy tone you’d expect from the best 50s Stratocaster pickups. The flat pole pattern is designed to improve string balance and response on guitars that use lighter strings or have flatter fretboards. The treble attack is soft and sweet, the mids feel just slightly scooped, while the low end has a vintage sponginess. Chords have a nice, smooth feel, and single notes have a singing, musical character.

Includes a reverse wound, reverse polarity middle pickup for noiseless operation in positions 2 & 4. Aside from the flat pole pieces, we use the same materials to build these as we do for all our vintage Fender style single coil pickups. We start by assembling the bobbins with the proper color and thickness of hand filed Forbon flatwork and alnico 2 magnets. We then lacquer our bobbins just as it was done during Fenders Golden Age.

This pickup comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plate. Like all our pickups, the Alnico 2 Pro Flat Stratocaster pickups are potted in our wax formulation for squeal free performance.

  • Neck/Middle/Bridge position models will have the same output, wind direction and magnetic polarity.
  • Middle RwRP position (reverse wind/reverse polarity) – choose this to have a pickup that will be hum-cancelling with one of our neck or bridge models.
  • All sets, except the Jimi Hendrix signature model, come with a Middle RWRP as the Middle Pickup.

These pickups are fantastic, I literally turned a useless guitar into my favorite with three Seymour Duncan pickups. I can't express enough how beautiful and distinct the sound from these are. I will very likely replace my other guitars pickups now that I see what a difference can be made!

Received the pickup I ordered, if it sounds as good as the one I bought before in the 90s, Im gonna be just as happy. Its going to be the middle pickup in my new HMH Fender parts guitar shown here. Waiting for my PAF humbuckers. Thanks Seymour Duncun!

This is the strat pickup

This is the strat pickup sound I've been searching for. Unlike most strat pickups I've used, these have body to them while still having that scooped strat sound.

Favorite pickups I’ve tried, just make sure the neck/middle have a 300k tone pot

When my stimulus hit my first order of business was to grab a new set of pickups for my Strat; the Texas Specials it had were way too hard and heavy for my liking. I knew I wanted less output and softer magnets, and I also wanted a balanced output set, so I thought a Seymour Duncan APS-2 in the bridge paired with another company’s AlNiCo 2 flat pole pickups (DC resistance 5.6k, if that narrows it down) would be a smashing set. And it was… But slowly I found those other pickups, more expensive than the Duncans though they were, simply weren’t quite the sound in my head. Great pickups, but too mid-scooped, too sharp in the high end for my rig and ears. I wanted a neck/middle with the more mid focused, soft touch burnished sweetness the APS-2 in the bridge gave me. So a few months later I sold those higher $ pickups and got 2 more APS-2s for the neck and middle. Absolutely killed my tonal woes, the frequency response and feel were exactly what those positions needed. I rolled with that setup using my stock wiring (modern wiring: neck/middle to 1st tone, bridge to 2nd tone, 250k pots) for over a year, but recently I hit upon a brilliant idea to balance the set further (seeing as the bridge position was now the same output as the neck/middle). 300k tone potentiometer for the neck and middle pickups. Once I did that last summer, the guitar came alive! More balanced frequency response between pups, more articulation in the neck, middle, and in-between positions, more direct tactile feeling under the fingers, just magic. The bridge was still plenty bright with a 250k pot, so I left that as is. Sometimes I still want for just just a few more Ks of resistance in the bridge, but then I remember my tone knob exists, and that ameliorates most of those output concerns. Absolutely wonderful pickups, beautiful clarity and feel, sweet treble, brilliantly brassy mids, and bouncy vintage bass; exactly the sound I had in my head. Everytime I play my guitar I’m amazed by it. A+ Seymour Duncan.

Neck Pickup

I had this installed in my custom built Firebird. I wanted a really nice clean sounding neck pickup so I could have something that sounded really sweet for playing at church gigs, so I initially installed a ‘59 humbucker but wasn’t impressed, so I turned to the single coils, I never had a guitar with a single coil pickup before I got this, but I wanted that clarity and “sweet” sound I heard from other people that played with a single in the neck position, and this one was the right call to me. It’s very great sounding for clean tones, I just love the way it sounds, but throw in a bit of drive and roll down the tone control and it sounds really bluesy and it just sings. It’s a very versatile neck pickup for what I need it for and it was just perfect for switching between classic rock covers and playing at church.

Alnico 2 Pickups

I wrote a review prior to installing the pickups. The guitar is a Telecaster with middle and neck routed for a strat style pickup. I have it wired as a 5 position switch. The tele lead has the traditional sound of a Tele. If you use the 2 or 4 position, you get a strat quack tone. The pickups sound fantastic through a Modified Blues Jr. No high end over load on the Tele lead pickup. Sound Smooth and very Tele 50's style. The 2 strat pickups sound great.

Great work by your teams, especially with the limitations imposed by covid-19.

The shipping notification email came long after shipping, but the pickups arrived within a reasonable time. In my opinion, that's great work getting them out the door and worrying about notifications later.
