Description

The calibrated Alnico 5 magnets of the Antiquity II Firebird vintage mini humbucker bridge pickup give the treble response an edgy sparkle—like an overwound single-coil—and the classic coil wind gives the bass response a humbucker-like tightness. The result is a pickup that sounds like the perfect cross between a single-coil and a humbucker with a growling tone.

The neck pickup’s treble response delivers clear single notes, and its low end will give your chords warmth and punch, making it a favorite for modified Telecasters. It’s as if these pickups have been sweetened with age—perfect for jangly rhythm, percussive hybrid picking, blues, rock, rowdy slide playing, and more.

The Antiquity II Firebird pickup is a drop-in replacement for Gibson Firebirds or any mini humbucker-equipped guitar, and it mounts with a standard Firebird mounting ring and 3-48 mounting screw, like the originals. Its custom-aged nickel cover makes it a great match for well-weathered, road-worn instruments and new “relic’ed” models alike.

Staying true to this type of ’50s-era Gibson and Epiphone pickups, these vintage mini humbuckers are not wax potted, which takes you right to the edge of harmonic breakup and sustaining feedback. Our Antiquity II Firebird vintage mini humbucker is faithfully assembled with the same materials as the original Firebird pickups, and it is wound to the original spec.

Firebird Antiquity II Pickups

I had a mid 90s Gibson Firebird V for a couple of years now and I wanted to keep it stock. Somehow the guitar was underwhelming in the tone aspect despite lots of adjustments and setups. After the Antiquity II went in, it totally brought the guitar to life. Its the body and warmth of a humbucker and also the sparkle of single coils. its got a nice vintage tone thrown in as well. warm crisp and articulate in clean tone, full bodied and well defined in overdrive/distortion. worth every penny for this understated underrated set. highly recommended for any firebird owners. i have been a seymour duncan user since the early 90s and till today, the pickups always work as advertised! quality is always there! keep up the good work all you chaps at seymour duncan!!

Better than 60's Gibson Firebird Pickups

I've tried a lot of Firebird pickups in my modern Firebird reissues, including the awful Gibson ceramic pickups and multiple other boutique brands, and I've owned a 1965 Firebird III with original pickups. The SD Antiquities sound the best of all of them, including the vintage Gibsons! There is something so perfectly round about these pickups--they are definitely bright, but whatever SD's aging process is, it rolls off the edges that are present in most modern versions, and puts them right in that sweet spot. Punchy and bright but not anemic. The original Gibson pickups sound good, but the neck is much boomier and not as perfectly balanced, while the bridge pickup is the same output as the neck, and really on the thin side and making them tough to balance. TBH, these pickups made me feel comfortable selling the vintage Firebird--I loved Firebirds, I had one, I tried it, and I moved on, and I already have my perfect Firebird tone in my 2011 reissue. The only drawback to these pickups is that they WILL squeal at high gain levels because they're unpotted.

These were everything I was

These were everything I was looking for in Firebird pickups. Popped these in my 2015 Gibson Bird and it totally transformed the guitar into something I can’t stop playing. The pickups are very touch sensitive dynamically and have the perfect amount of open clarity and bite that I was hoping to gain with the swap from the stock Gibson Ceramics. They are just a tad smaller than the other Gibson pickups I replaced, but it makes no noticeable difference visually. I was on the fence about a pickup swap for a while because Firebird pickups are a bit niche and have limited options to choose from. I could hardly find any examples of video/audio recordings to get an idea of tones, but I’m so glad I went through with these. I would highly recommend the Antiquity II Firebird Pickups. I have had Antiquity Hot 50’s Strat, P90’s, and now Firebird pickups and am a firm believer in this line of pickups from SD.

I replaced the stock pickups

I replaced the stock pickups in my 2017T Firebird with these Antiquity II pups and it made an incredible difference. The stock pups were super overwound and hot (bridge was 25.2K ohms!) and got brittle sounding easily. Now the guitar still screams if I need it but it sounds really sweet too. I'm really loving the guitar now.

Just the bridge pickup so far ...

I put one of these in my non reverse Firebird, bridge position, left the neck stock so far. It's the best sounding guitar I think I've ever had now. I pretty much just use that pickup because it sounds so good. It has all kinds of clear low to treble sound that it's very impressive, usually pickups are bassy or spanky but this has everything. Depending on attack, it kind of snarls, at least wide open. Lends itself to an emotional sound.

Undeniable musical perfection

2014 sunburst 120th Anniversary came with ceramic pickups, bright and dull. Installed these antiquities and now the tones I get out of the guitar are unique and full. Lows and highs and just the right amount of miss. Roll the tone up on the neck and down on the bridge for a smooth jazz, blues tone. Crand the tone on the bridge and 2/4 the neck volume and it gets nasty fun to play. Am very satisfied with these pups.

I’ve never ordered anything from

I’ve never ordered anything from Seymour Duncan before...I always thought some of these bigger companies were over rated. I couldn’t not have been more wrong. I went with the Antiquity pickups because they looked great. Once I got them in the guitar I couldn’t put it down. The notes are literally exploding from the guitar. Not because they’re not outputs, but because of clarity and detail. These pickups are so historically accurate, they’re not wax potted, so it felt like the guitar was trying to sing on its own. So much fun to play, superb pickups, and I WILL be buying more from Seymour Duncan.

Antiquity II™ Firebird Mini Humbuckers

I bought a used Gibson Firebird (2012) with SD Antiquity II mini-humbuckers already installed expecting to swap them out for Mojotone Johnny Winter pickups but I’m very happy with these SD pickups. They sound great: snarly with lots of grit when you want it, and they clean up nicely too, with plenty of chime and jangle. Very nice pickups.
