Description

A roadworthy set of our Little ‘59s take your guitar from gator country to big city back alleys and everywhere in between. The Little ‘59 neck pickup has a slightly stronger treble emphasis than a traditional P.A.F., with added articulation. It’s a single coil sized humbucker with a nice, balanced P.A.F.-like response for big, full chords, and fat, punchy solos.

The Little ‘59 bridge model is a single coil sized humbucker that will inject the sound of a Les Paul directly into your Stratocaster. Its medium output and scooped mids will really add depth to your bridge position. The 4-conductor lead wire gives you access to parallel and split wiring options for added versatility. This pickup is a drop-in for any standard single coil pickup route.

Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Little ‘59 for Strat pickups come with ceramic magnets, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and are wax potted for squeal-free operation.

  • Neck/Middle position models will have the same output, wind direction and magnetic polarity.
  • All sets, except the Jimi Hendrix signature model, come with a Middle RWRP as the Middle Pickup.
  • Middle RwRP position (reverse wind/reverse polarity) – choose this to have a pickup that will be hum-cancelling with one of our neck or bridge models.

This one is a classic!!!

This one is a classic!!! but in a petite size. . . the serial mode configuration of this pick up is out of this world!!! strings ring balance and clear!!! perfect for a virtuoso guitar player, the riff will sound defined with very little boots effect!!! I use it on a neck position, highly recommend to install it with an on,on,on dptp switch!!!

I was never able to

I was never able to find a use for the bridge pickup in my 2006 American Deluxe strat, too thin and ice picky. They are the Bill Lawrence design SCN noiseless pickups with the Fender S-1 switch for additional pickup combinations and I loved the neck and middle but the bridge was useless to me. The Little '59 neck pickup fixed this! The sound is much thicker and warmer, and slightly louder than the remaining pickups without overpowering them and throwing your amp setting out the window. To my ears it actually has some single coil character and plays really well with the others. The S-1 switch positions seem to work as before and thickens up things even more if desired, I never really used it before but seems much more useful now. The best thing is it retains the lovely bridge/middle position sound, in fact it may even be more pronounced than before. Note: The install instructions mention that if you are using it with Fender pickups you may have to swap wire locations to correct phase issues. Since this was my situation I just used the alternate wiring pattern at the start and had the phase issues, I swapped back to the normal wiring scheme and all was well. So if you're putting this pickup in a Fender Am Deluxe strat with the SCN pickups and S-1 switch, just use the "normal" wiring setup in the instructions.

The Little '59 Strat humbucker

The Little '59 Strat humbucker is just as potent as the normal sized '59 Humbucker... I upgraded my Strat Ultra to 2ea Little '59's and a Pearly Gates at the bridge... Smoothe and sweet no matter what position I choose... and mean and lean if I want to get down and dirty... and having a 5 way switch along with the ability to switch them all to single coils... I have more possibilities than the imagination and comprehend... Nothing beats Seymour Duncan pickups... and I have been using them since the late 80's and they have become a vital part of my signature sound.

Lil 59

Ok I’m a bass player mostly or I started playing bass first. I have reviewed the SD Qt. pound PJ set and to me not a better set of PJ pickups are out there for me. OK! I know this is about the little 59.I bought a 2006 wine red standard Mex strat to pick around on and if a friend dropped by and wanted to play I had something they could play. Well this guitar has the ceramic fender pickups that don’t sound as good as the alnico v pickups like the newer player series have. Anyway for what I use it for enough me just a rhythm guitar player at best but I wanted that humbucker sound in the bridge. I like single coils in the bridge or middle or both. I love the sound of a PAF nothing comes close just the right amount of output but not to much. Anyway the local shop I deal with in town told me about the lil 59 and I broke down and got it. I had his guy put it in and wire the second tone control to it and you the first tone control for the neck and middle. No pot changes etc. just the lil 59 . This pickup is the best thing you can do for an sss strat by far just unbelievable especially for a ceramic pickup and actually blends well with stock fender pups. I love this pickup and I’m thinking about getting 2 more to have the full set and putting a switch or wiring them to split in the neck and middle positions IDK. BUT I KNOW THIS IS THE BEST $99 you can put into your strat. I have an 2019 American pro one now and I hate to admit that I enjoy playing my Mex standard more because of the lil 59. I’m thinking about getting the EVERYTHING loaded pick guard for my American pro this pickup in the neck, duckbucker in the middle ,and the lil or mini JB in the bridge O yes I am! The lil 59 won’t let you down and you can put it in a Squire or any SSS Strat style guitar and instant transformation into great humbucker sounds in any position.

There is no better

I swapped Seymour’s in my PRS 24se and holy shiat, I get beautiful scoulpted clean tones and incredibly articulate dirty tones. They are amazing and I am putting little 59’s in my new strat build and can’t wait to hear them. Thank you guys for your dedication to tone and quality!

Versatility

First of, Thank you to Christopher Cardenas at SD Tech Support/Customer Service for taking care of my exchange order.. from Duckbuckers to Lil 59'r As for the Lil 59, it is all good at middle/neck position .. My set up is basically JB-Trem at bridge, Middle and Neck are the Lil 59'rs. and 500k volume pot.. The outputs at all 5 way position is well match, the 2 and 4 position gets a good dose of great chimey bell like tone that strat is known for but, louder, slightly thicker but still retains that chime and bell like tone. It makes transitioning at all 5 positions smoothly with a VERY VERY SMALL AMOUNT OF VOLUME DROP at the 2 and 4 position depending on needs for the songs at band dynamics. Highly recommend the Lil 59'r if your tired of that typical strat stuff unless that's your thang.. I gig every weekend and I should've done this set up years ago, which helps me cover many styles and genres...

Perfect for Jam Band Music

I recently joined a Grateful Dead cover band and I have an American Standard Ash Oil Limited Edition Strat. I love the guitar, but I found the sound of the factory Fat 50 single coils to be too thin for this style of music. After a ton of research and going back and forth between doing an HSS conversion and single coil humbuckers I ordered a set of these Little 59s. I bought the whole set because I didn't want output issues between the bridge, middle, and neck. These pick ups sound absolutely amazing. They have great clarity and fatten up the sound without completely losing the Strat's best qualities. I still get quack and some of the bell chime. But no more buzzing and no more frustration that my tone (especially bridge pickup) is just too skimpy in the mix. They just sound fantastic. What really surprised me was how good the 4 and 5 positions sound now. There is a new richness to those positions I wasn't expecting, but they still retain that bite that you want in a Strat neck pickup. I never leave reviews, but because of how much time and research I put into this I wanted to pass along my thoughts. If you play a Strat and are in a jam band and frustrated by the thinness of the single coils then you can't go wrong with these pickups.

Perfect neck pickup!

SO glad I went with this for the neck slot on my 27-fret neck-through Ibanez! I was struggling for years with exactly what to replace the stock pickups with (they're not bad, just not right for me), and I wanted the upgrade to legitimately improve the sound of the guitar instead of just being "different". Well my friends, THIS IS THE ONE! I wanted something with a bit more "juice" - something really well-suited to mid-to-high gain neck-pickup soloing, but that also cleans up for bluesy and jazzy stuff when you roll the volume and tone controls back. I also wire up my guitars for coil splitting AND selection so I can use the inner or outer coils individually (SD has the wiring diagram for this under "P-Rails" if you want to try it), so I needed both coils to sound different when I switch between them. I could not be happier if I'd ordered a CS pickup! It's sweet and warm for solos, and gets even sweeter when you roll the tone control back a bit, but it's still super articulate so the pick attack comes through. I paired this with a Black Winter Trembucker at the bridge, and while that might sound like a mismatch, it actually works great - just set up your lead sound with the Little '59 so it sounds perfect, and switching to the Black Winter just gives you more output and cut. I can't say enough good things about this pickup, so I'll finish up with: I love it.

Incredible

Before I say anything about how much I love these pups I wanna say I'm an intermediate guitar player - I know just enough to get me into trouble so these pups were literally a stunning surprise on the road to the versatility and tone I've been searching for. I put a set of these Little 59s into my Elite Strat and was immediately blown away. The first thing I noticed was the thicker punch from the bridge pup for slightly dirty country pickin or full on Rick Derringer with another layer of overdrive but I still hadn't really heard these pups yet. It wasn't until I went to the middle pickup with just a clean preamp and some reverb that I understood what these pups were all about - Every note soared full and rich with punch power and sustain. I could lay off the gain on my pedals and lighten my touch while each note sang on the edge of the grit that was there if I chose to dig in just a little harder. Absolutely PERFECT for Garcia tone - People spend over 10k for one of those Garcia guitars trying to sound like Jerry and I did it accidentally with a set of Little 59s, a preamp and 200 dollar solid state 50w amp. :)) (I put in a new electronics package with two push/push tone pots to split the coils on-demand so I could keep my OEM S-1 set up intact in the original pickguard if I needed to reinstall it) Hats Off to the folks at Seymour Duncan!

Perfect match for my 65 Stratocaster

This pickup´s output matched perfectly with my 65 single coil strat pickups and after playing it for almost a month now sometimes I can´t decide if I like it more than my pearly gates on my SG, this pickup is a little bit hotter than a normal PAF and has a little bit less low end but that makes it more focused and it cleans up with the volume pretty well too, the only problem I had was that fender pickups seem to have different winding direction than duncans but I just connected the south coil of the humbucker to the switch and my problem was solved. I really recommend it. I´m using 500k volume pots combined with some 470k resistors and a super switch

Fantastic pickup! It’s super clear

Fantastic pickup! It’s super clear and articulate in both the bridge and neck positions, but also punchy and full. Will cut through the mix nicely and also cleans up super well if you have a lot of gain on it. Definitely one of the most versatile pickups I’ve ever used.

Amazing

I went through seemingly a million pickups for a project S-style guitar. Single coils, humbuckers, HH, HHS, 500k and 250k, 500k with resistors for single coils….and on and on. Two years of trial and error. Each time I came back to the Lil59 as THE pickup for the bridge position. Hot but not too hot. Each note and each string with definition. Both bottom end and high end, but not high end dominant. It’s the perfect pickup. And all on the standard Strat 250k pot setup. I probably spent $800 to find that the $89 Lil59 is the best pickup ever made for a Strat bridge. It rocks.

The Little 59 was exactly what the doctor ordered for the bridge position in my new Stat. I’ve never played a Strat before, I’ve always played Charvels, Jackson’s, and Carvin’s. The stock single coil and I just didn’t bond.

The pickup sounds great! I am very happy with it. It has made my bridge pickup useful again. Only thing is I ordered parchment and the box said it was parchment but it looks pretty white to me. I wish it would have matched the color of the picture on the website to better match my other pickups color.

The sound I was looking for

I have never played a PAF pickup but I was looking for a strat sized mini humbucker/P90 or something close to those vintage sounds (mid output). I play mostly with the Neil Young sound of a pushed tweed deluxe amp fuzzy distortion, too thick for single coils to reach (Neil uses P90s and Firebird Pickups). I emailed SD support explaining what I wanted and they recommended the Little59 straight away. I installed one and bang on! It nails the distorted sound I wanted with extra dynamics and response than previous hotter single coils I used, quite close to my vintage P90 and also not too bright. Defined and clear. I can correct the tone with my amp or guitar controls but I needed the pickup to push the amp the right way to get that thick distortion to fuzz. I couldn't be happier. Thanks to SD and the Support team for the help and for the pickup. You have opened new territories for my Strat and my playing.

Got one in the neck

Got one in the neck for a Jeff Beck Strat my dad recently gave to me. I’m no purist, and not particularly fond of Strat tones, but that guitar plays beautifully so I figured I’d try to make the guitar warmer and fatter (I mainly stick to mini humbuckers and regular humbuckers and I like darker tones). Still the brightest guitar I own, still retains something of a Strat character (to me, anyway), but really did what I wanted it to do. I’m about to swap the bridge for another lil 59. Aces all around.

It Still retains a strat

It Still retains a strat kind of tone in the bridge except it smoother and less trebley than the original bridge pickup. It's also hum canceling and very quiet. Sounds great for clean, dirty and tons of gain. wire in series/parallel instead of coil tap for that single coil tone.
