Description

Power up your Telecaster with the upper midrange growl and drive of the Quarter Pound for Tele pickups. The Quarter Pound for Tele Rhythm’s custom overwound coil provides a powerful midrange that cuts through any mix without sounding bright or brash. This makes it a rhythm beast with huge sounding chords, and full, fat lead tones.

The Quarter Pound Tele Lead is our highest output Tele single coil. Its special high output coil, with hand polished ¼” diameter alnico 5 rod magnets, deliver a huge sound with an almost P90-like growl. Leads will jump out and sound fatter than ever, while chords will be rich with sparkly midrange harmonics. The perfect choice for Tele players who demand to be heard.

Both pickups are available in an optional tapped variation as well, allowing you to tap into both vintage and high output tonalities with a single Tele set. The Quarter Pound high output Tele pickups are hand built in Santa Barbara, CA using hand polished ¼” diameter alnico 5 rod magnets, and Forbon flatwork along with a traditional deep drawn chrome plated Telecaster cover for the neck. Wax potted for squeal free performance.

Tapped Quarter Pounder Set - best of both worlds

I opted for the tapped set and had no idea how incredible they'd be. (Have run standard Quarter Pounders on a tele before and they give immense and 100% usable high output for lead work and harmonically intense heavy disortion metal rhythm work - can't rate highly enough. I'll add that this high output is better than merely using a boost pedal - however great that boost pedal may be, as (forgive lack of technical vocabulary) picking up that output right at source using winds/magnet design has an advantage to both tone and reaction to playing / dynamics / tone that you don't otherwise get). The tapped setting reveals a whole new sonic possibility of more traditional output, which is no afterthought: nope, a superb tone and level of nuance in itself. Expressive, clear, articulate tele sound in a more vintage sense. So, really, the best of both worlds. So, the tapped sound would be a great set of pickups in itself. I want to mention the support I got from Seymour Duncan via email. This company go above and beyond to support their custoers. Jeff's knowledge and helpfulness was second to none - thanks for being 'old fashioned excellent' in service whilst modern cutting edge in your products.

Pleased at last

Bought a Hwy 1 in 2004 and was disappointed in the pickups, so too a luthier friend. These 14 pounders are really good.

Absolutely fantastic pickups. I play

Absolutely fantastic pickups. I play mostly clean, mostly instrumental, and mostly fingerstyle. I do it as a hobby more than anything else. I previously had the Brad Paisley set, and I truly can’t recommend that one enough. However, my telecaster is the only guitar I have, and I needed it to be slightly more versatile. I tried putting a humbucker in the neck (PAF style) and while it did sound great, I felt the tone did stray away quite a bit from the tele sound that I love so much. This set still sounds like a telecaster set, but it does have a slight mid boost, that gives it a slightly fuller tone. The mod boost gives a bit more more-by-note clarity, especially on the neck pickup. The way I would describe the sound is as if you had pushed the amp’s gain enough to get just a bit of compression, but without getting any distortion or overdrive. So while I do get something slightly different from what I would consider a “pure” telecaster sound, I do think that the differences from a more traditional set are actually good to have. Tbh - if I was given this guitar without knowing which pickups are installed, I’d still say it sounds like a telecaster, but with really good pickups. I was planning only on getting the neck pickup, since it’s what I needed the most and because the Brad Paisley bridge pickup (the one I had) is in my opinion the best telecaster bridge pickup ever made. However, I bought the full set and I truly think it was worth the money. These two pickups together make a lot of sense, and work well with the same pedal/amp settings. Not to mention that they are similar output, so it feels very well balanced. I don’t think I need anything else from my tele since I installed this pickup set. I have finally found the set I will keep on my tele forever.

Awesome pickups. I upgraded my '89 MIK Squier telecaster with a pair of Quarter Pound pickups slightly modified so I could add a four-way switch with the option to put the pickups in series. Upgraded the tone cap and all the wiring while I was at it. I liked the sound of the guitar before, but now I absolutely love it. Well worth the investment.

These sound SO GOOD. I purchased a Squier Classic Vibe Baritone Telecaster and the stock electronics were garbage. I did lots of research before making my decision to buy the quarter pounders, including calling Seymour Duncan customer service, who confirmed that these would sound great on a baritone. The pickups are hot, but not too hot, and they breathe so much life into the guitar. They sound great! 11/10.

Extreme versatility in a Tele

I put this pickup set in my home-built Tele (swamp ash body, maple neck/fretboard). The sound is incredible and extremely versatile, and they're quite quiet for single coils. You can get that classic, uber twangy Tele sound and so much more. In high gain situations, these pickups really do perform in a way that rivals a humbucker: so fat 🙂

**Above me it says I

**Above me it says I am reviewing the Quarter Pound for Tele - 6 Neck, but that's not accurate; I have the bridge pickup, not the neck** This pickup gives me the extra edge I was looking for. It has spank and growl like a Tele bridge pickup should, but it also transitions into hard rock and heavy metal without any strain. This pickup is WILD. Wanna play country? Sure thing, no problem--it has you covered. Wanna play Pop? Americana? Rock? Thrash Metal? The only thing this pickup *can't* do is make you sound thin and crappy. If you want to sound like broken uncooked pasta noodles, don't buy this. If you want to turn up the "Kick-Ass" knob, then this is for you!

Holy mackerel..

This is one amazing bridge P.U... it's been a while since I have had any single coil loaded guitars, so when I recently picked up this mim player telecaster, I was fairly happy with the stock p.u. but new I needed a tad bit more horsepower to saturate the tone a bit more, and I have to say the quarter pounder beyond met that request and then some. It is indeed able to go head to head with humbuckers, p90's and such and still retain enough of the tele spank that is the identity of a tele. But also Will do hot blue's and shred some lydian, natural minor sequences, arpeggios or whatever you fancy in the prog, rock and even up to metal. And a liquid lead tone is easily obtained with higher gain amps. Think cliff's of dover/EJ or the good stuff of shrapnel record's etc.. but it's not a one trick poney but a corral of stallions ready to rip.. roll the volume back a touch and you can twang till the cows come home, and roll the volume up and it's a heat sinking missile of articulate liquid shredding.. only problem I have is now I need to collect more guitars to accommodate the pickups I plan on purchasing from you lol.. never had a pickup that inspired me to buy more guitars lol, but this one absolutely has.. I hear a hot tele lead calling me right now 😁👍👍

These pickups are Fraking awesome

I put these in a 1996 Mexican Tele that the person I bought it from had ruined with a certain powered set of black pickups. I had become so disgusted with the sound that I tore it apart in 2013 and it sat dormant in a gig bag until 2019. I then got the itch to put it back together with these high output screamers, and I wasn’t disappointed. They sound good clean, they sound good dirty, and they sound good distorted. They sound good at church, and they sound good at a honky tonk. If you love that Tele sound and also hot pickups that can handle any tone you want, go for these.
