Description

The Sentient humbucker was originally designed to accompany the 7 and 8 string passive Nazgûl and Pegasus bridge pickups. It delivers a balanced, versatile tone that fits right between our iconic ’59 and Jazz model neck pickups. You’ll get pristine cleans for intricate chordal and single note runs with fluid leads under high gain. The Sentient is a very articulate vintage output pickup with great dynamic response and a wide harmonic range. It works great for low tunings in all humbucker-equipped guitars.

It is available in 6, 7, and 8-string options. The extended range options come in a choice of a standard open-coil look or black metal humbucker cover, both in a classic passive mount that easily fits in any guitar with traditional routing. Or, we also make it in a standard active mount size with a black soapbar cover with one row of exposed poles for a modern look. Pair with the passive Nazgûl or Pegasus bridge humbuckers for a perfectly balanced metal tone.

Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, the Sentient uses an alnico 5 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance.

Very shocked at how versatile

Very shocked at how versatile this pickup is. Very well balanced, and works beautifully paired with the 59 Custom Hybrid in the bridge. It's an addictive tone machine!

I'm not much of a neck pickup player. I only use if for certain parts of lead playing, and by then there's so much gain and compression, it's difficult to really hear any subtleties among neck pickups to give any insight on how it's better or worse than others. Bottom line, it does its job, and it's well balanced with the Nazgul.

Installed in the neck with

Installed in the neck with the Duncan distortion in the bridge position and it sounds great. This pickup is a little less bright than the jazz neck but brighter than the 59 neck. The description of this pickup is right on the mark.

The best neck pickup on

The best neck pickup on the market, this does both tight metal rhythms and soaring leads. No other neck pickup I’ve tried ever sounds good for metal rhythm. For clean tones, you can’t do better than the split coil sounds of the Sentient. Glassy, soft, and sparkling, like a river under Moonlight is how I’d describe the clean tones.

Excellent option for 7 string.

Excellent option for 7 string. Super balanced with the Pegasus and gives a little more body than the 59 with a touch less top end. Very smooth and clear. Really enjoying the set.

My fave Duncan!

People always talk about how versatile the 59 and WLH neck pups are, but IMHO the Sentient is the best of the best. Any magnet I put in it sounds amazing. A4: amazing PAF tone. A2: sweet creamy goodness, roughcast A5: glorious classic rock sounds. I ended up putting the original smooth A5 back in for it's modern jazzy clarity. Seriously: try this pickup!

Beautiful

The description on this pickup is spot-on. It's voiced right between a 59 and a Jazz. The PAF sound if full and warm but will dirty up in a heart beat. This is one of the best neck pickups ever created and will match with pretty much any bridge pickup. It reminds me of an EMG-60 but with more presence.

Great for blues too

Say a demo of this pickup paired with a custom custom and bought both to upgrade my Fernandes RevolverX. Love to play this guitar clean now! These pickups work so well together and my "metal" guitar is now a blues/classic - Brit rock machine.

An unusual combination of pickups

Bought a Revstar 502T for the tailpiece design but p90 style aren't my thing. Revstar is a guitar with excessive low end, the designers included a push-pull switch with a HP filter, so they know this very well. I Installed a SH-14 Custom 5 in the bridge position but the low end of this particular combination was disturbingly huge. I switched the SH-14 Custom5 in the neck position with the coils wired in series and installed in the bridge position a Sentient (which is a neck pickup) and I am very happy with the balanced tones from this guitar.
