American Flag Guitar
Even though the guitar has been around for hundreds of years, it is amazing that luthiers are still coming up with new designs that increase the performance of the instrument. One such builder is Kammerer Guitars. Jon Kammerer informally started Jon Kammerer Guitars as a thesis project for industrial design school. His research found that up to two-thirds of the sound waves in an acoustic guitar bounce into a corner and directly back onto themselves and cancel out. With the use of parabolic curves, Jon found that he could help focus the sound, eliminate sound wave cancellation, and remove uncomfortable sharp corners. The unique shape also meant that the guitars had to be designed using state-of-the-art CAD/CAM software and cut on a computer-controlled mill. Thus, the birth of a new guitar design and a new company: Kammerer Guitars.

After great success in building acoustic guitars utilizing the parabolic curve concept, Jon decided to incorporate his parabolic design theory to electric guitars. His most unique design to date is the American Flag Model. These guitars are constructed from American Maple, Walnut and Cherry with amazingly intricate woodwork. The white stripes and stars are maple, the red stripes are cherry and the background is walnut. The guitar pictured has a walnut neck and a curly maple fret board. It has 13 stars on the neck and fret board to symbolize the 13 colonies. The back of the guitar is walnut and it also has 13 stars inlaid into it. He uses Gotoh hardware, locking tuners, and of course Seymour Duncan pickups. This guitar has a SH-1 '59 Model in the neck and a TB-59 Trembucker in the bridge.
