Description

The onboard tone circuits of the Blackouts Active Bass Preamp will instantly add tremendous tonal versatility to your bass. This system enables you to boost or cut EQ at center frequencies voiced specifically for electric bass. It features low noise, low distortion, and high headroom.

Although originally voiced for use with Blackouts for Bass pickups, with its switchable treble frequency, the Blackouts Bass Preamp works well for all musical styles and genres. The lows are deep, clear, and tight. Because there are two treble frequency centers to choose from you get a ton of flexibility in the high end. The lower treble setting is perfect for adding growl and bite to traditional P, J, and MM tones. The higher setting offers crystal-clear top end to modern-sounding, full-frequency basses and, when used with Blackouts for Bass, provides punishing clarity without being brittle. This two-band active EQ is available in two configurations.

The STC-2C-BO is mounted to a concentric potentiometer, and can replace a standard tone knob with no need for additional holes in the bass. The STC-2S-BO separates the treble and bass controls onto two pots. The Blackouts Bass Preamp ships with all necessary mounting hardware: high-quality potentiometers on a pre-wired harness, battery clip, stereo jack, and knurled black dome-style knobs.

Effective, quality, value!

I have installed this preamp in both a Squier Bass VI and a J Bass. Initially, it was chosen for the low price, trust in Duncan quality and being a concentric control, which made it a safe bet to replace the tone controls on these passive instruments. In application, it exceeded expectations! Set the treble to the lower frequency—from center detent to full cut it mostly mimics a passive tone control. Using the bass control from center to cut can mimic the “strangle switch” of the Bass VI. Plus, you can boost! Boost the bass while using a soloed bridge pickup—cool tone. Great product, highly recommended. Oh, the provided knobs are nice, too!

Very good quality. Easy install.

Very good quality. Easy install. Small enough to install on almost any bass. Adds the perfect amount of output boost and some colorful tone. A no brainer addition to any bass.

Great Mod, Made all the Difference...

After having the benefit of ten years of direct stage experience with SD active pickups on my '68 P-bass (not one complaint), I decided to add this preamp to my current bass. Not surprisingly, it works like a champ! Handmade in Santa Barbara, CA, USA (my old stomping grounds). Keep up the good work, you guys are a fine example of "value-added"....

"What a difference you've made in my bass"

I recently purchased an inexpensive bass because it looks beautiful. While it also plays quite well, unfortunately the pickups are weak, boomy and "thumpy" sounding. Enter the Seymour Duncan Blackouts active 2-band concentric EQ. I wired it in and it made those pickups sound beautiful. This was really important because there are no aftermarket pickups that can be used on this bass without actually routing out space. With this EQ, no routing needed and beautiful, rich, articulate sound achieved. And all for only 60 bucks!
