Description

Seymour Duncan Tone Circuits will add a tremendous amount of on-board tonal versatility to any dual pickup bass. Our design enables players to boost or cut specifically focused frequencies in order to achieve signature tones and to dial in a great sound no matter what the situation.

The STC-3P, designed for passive pickups, provides  concentric bass and treble controls, mid range control, a master volume, a blend control, and our proprietary Slap Switch. The treble control can produce a wide ranging, extremely usable response that is brilliant, yet smooth without being brittle. The bass can be reduced to tighten up a boomy instrument, or it can be increased to add warmth and punch. Mid range can adjust to give more punch or scoop for more clarity. The Slap Switch is a push/pull located on the volume control. Pulling up on the volume knob will engage the special EQ contour voiced specifically for slap playing. The two small trim pots on the circuit board can be tweaked to preset the slap contour EQ just the way you want.

The STC-3P Tone Control is voiced to work in any bass that is equipped with two passive pickups and has space for 4 control knobs (volume/slap switch, blend, mid,  concentric bass and treble controls) and a single 9v battery in the control cavity. Two 9v batteries can be wired together in series for added headroom. We include all necessary mounting hardware high-quality potentiometers on pre-wired harness; battery clip; and black anodized, knurled, dome-style knobs.

Upgrade install for Yamaha BB5000A

Picked up this bass several years back at a local pawn shop. The "P-bass" side was DOA but the Jazz side still functioned. As this bass has long been out of production, there was not much help from Yamaha. Tried the "active" pickup version of this system to see if that would help, but it did not. After much deliberation and really wanting to get this bass back in the mix, I opted to upgrade to the SD Qtr Pound 5-string P-Bass and Qtr Pound 5-string Jazz Bridge along with this system. Installation was super easy (great directions from SD). So how well does it work? Like a dream - great tone controls as I can get this thing to get as funky as you want (great pop and snap) or go deep down growl of P-Bass tones. Still working on how to overcome the phase cancellation that happens between the Jazz Bridge and the D-G coil of the P-Bass, but that has nothing to do with the preamp system. It is a great design that works well!

Great 3 band preamp for passive pickups

Nice active preamp, I replaced the preamp in a 2006 Fender Mex Pbass special. This is the pbass that fender made with pj configuration pbass body jazz neck. Candy apple red gold pick guard. I bought it as a demo and hot rodded it. I replaced tuners with hip shot hb7s and bridge with the hip shot A style bridge. But the best part was the SD Quarter Pound PJ set I replaced with the existing fender preamp. Sounded good but pots started to get a little noisy and midrange pot barely worked. So to sum at that up I decided to Erie place the fender preamp with STC3p and let me tell you first of all the QT Pounders are amazing but after adding the stc3p, another level my friends. Smooth pots quiet like a whisper to a scream this bass I will put up against any American deluxe, elite ,or ultra pbass fender makes and this bass will holds its own. No question great preamp but get a set of SD pups with it and you can’t go wrong. Peace! Nd

Great product

Installed the Active Bass Preamp in my Rogue Series III - 6 string bass. Super simple install, I had to drill a new hole for the 1/4" jack, but I prefer having it where it is as opposed to the original. Used a couple pieces of black tape to isolate/insulate it, but it fit inside the existing area, including the battery. Total time less than four hours, but I was in no hurry. I think the guitar is quieter when you let go of the strings than it was originally also. I searched the FAQs, but could not find an approximate battery life. Any clue to how long a fresh battery would last under continual use would help.
