Description

In the past, if you wanted humbucker tone, P90 tone, and Strat tone, you would have needed three different guitars. But now, the P-Rails humbucker delivers all three sounds in a pickup that is a drop-in replacement for any standard-sized humbucker slot. Using any 3-way (on-off-on) mini-switch, each unique hybrid humbucker can be split to give you a super fat, authentic vintage P90, or be split to the Rail coil for a classic Strat-like tone.

With both coils on, you get a big-sounding humbucker that packs a nice full punch. The neck version is wound RWRP so that, you can use both P90s or both Rails together and achieve hum-canceling operation. Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, each P-Rails versatile humbucker pickup uses a pair of alnico 5 bar magnets, comes with a 4-conductor lead wire to allow for all the wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal free operation. The bridge position P-Rails is available in either standard humbucker or Trembucker spacing.

Man I’ve always played HB

Man I’ve always played HB pups for 20 years and then I found found single coils…for clean stuff…and couldn’t live without my humbucker for the heavy distortion which is ultimately what I believe we all live for…I like the way these p-rails sound in all modes. Decent twang on the single coil much nicer than a split HB I think. P90 is very interesting hard to turn off. I LOVE the parallel HB mode on these. This bridge pup is pretty trebly, EQ uses a little more bass than before, I use the tone knob much more than before or play with volume knocked just a little bit off of full at most in cleanish settings. I think these would be best with 4-knob setup. Awesome on my 2Vol 1tone 3way schecter though! Thanks SD

We're still in the honeymoon

We're still in the honeymoon stage but I love this setup. I could have used slightly longer height adjustment screws. I used the triple shot mounting rings on my epiphone lp and everything ends up a bit high at the end of install. Both the P-Rails and the triple shot mounts are great products. Completely satisfied. I'm getting one of your strat prewired pick guards next...

Very good combination of sounds

Very good combination of sounds are possible with these pickups and the rail switches. I didn’t care for them at first, but by the next day they started to grow on me. The humbuckers are what I will likely use most and they are similar to a JB and Jazz that I’m used to in HRH sets.

Cool for slide

I have an old Les Paul style guitar I wanted to set up for slide, and upgrade some parts, including the pickups Looked at many options, and decided on a P-Rail so I could have a humbucker and get in the P 90 neighbourhood (So I could cover ground of my other guitars and add a P 90 sound.) So I have a guitar with a P Rail in the neck wired for humbucker/p90/rail in the neck. And a JB in the bridge(series/parallel/split.) That guitar went from very rarely played to played a lot. The store I bought it from actually gave me a bridge P Rail, but it works great. I love the tones and versatility I get, and have single coil and humbucker options for slide. The P90 and rail sounds mix well with the JB, whether single coil or humbucker settings. Part of me would like to try a neck PRail on another guitar to compare, maybe one day.

amazing versatility plus great tones

I use one in the bridge of my guitar for my function band and I wired it to a 3 way switch so I can select between Single coil, P90 or a Humbucker. The Single coil is great for funky rhythm. The P90 sounds great on fuller single coil tones that drive the amp for 50's Rock n Roll The Humbucker has a full on Rock output for classic rock anthems. All the pick ups have a musical tone and there is a definite distinction between the pick ups, ideal if you need to cover a lot of tonal ground.

I have figured out how

I have figured out how to end the debate over which pickup is best in the neck of a telecaster. No more choosing between a single coil, a P90, or a humbucker. With P-rails you get all 3 (one at a time of course.) Add the triple shot rings and you have a 4th option. True versatility.

I have been a fan

I have been a fan of the P-Rails since they first came out on the scene. They increase the versatility of any guitar I've put them in. I think the most versatile install is the one in my Godin Icon 2 Convertible, which allows me to switch each pickup individually.

Few things I've ever encountered

Few things I've ever encountered have lived up to the hype. We've all tried the pedal that was supposed to give us THE sound, or the bridge that would give us sustain for days, or the one magical amplifier that had the tone of the Gods. We've all been let down. These pickups along with the Triple Shot Mounting rings are one of the few pieces of gear I've ever owned that have lived up to my expectations. The P-90 is fat, the humbucker tones get chunky, the single coil sounds are clear and bright. How do you make one guitar sound like three or more guitars? Get the P-Rails and the Triple Shots.

The Triple-Shot and basic soldering

The Triple-Shot and basic soldering skills makes installation of the P-Rail simple. And with all the options they give you what's not to like? It sounds great in every configuration! I installed this on a Godin A6 Ultra and turned a very versatile axe into an even more versatile one. Two thumbs up!

The bees damn knees

So I had an LTD guitar (super cheap end LP knockoff) that’s beautiful to look at but had some EMGs in it that I didn’t love, and it was missing a whole potentiometer from whoever added in the emg. I figured why not replace those with the PRAILS and triple shot rings I had hanging around. They are worth about the same amount as the guitar, but the LTD is visually beautiful, so screw it. Gave it a shot. I’m no wiring master, so it was hard to find the exact schematic for this setup, but I eventually found something comparable. Finally got to hear and play it for the first time tonight. This may have just become my favorite guitar, and I own 4 gibsons and countless epiphones and fenders. It can mimic the sounds pretty well of almost all of them. I threw one some super slinky cobalts and this thing just screams punk rock for days. I have an Epiphone Prizm Plus that IS my favorite guitar because of the neck, and I’m going to use the other set I have to replace the Gibson USA pickups in it. That’s how much I love these. P90 FTW. Awesome job Seymour Duncan!

Fitted to my 2015 Gibson

Fitted to my 2015 Gibson SG Standard. The original Gibson Classic 57 pickups were a little muddy for my taste, and coil splitting them was underwhelming. The P-rails give this thing a new lease of life. Great P-90 tones. Almost Strat-like on the rails, and, of course, full humbucker greatness when needed. Superb service as usual.

The p-rail neck model that

The p-rail neck model that I purchased sounds amazing across the all levels. Great full throated full humbucker sound and when you split them you can hear strat sounds and p90 sounds which is awesome. I hooked it up to a triple shot mounting rings which also lets you have the humbucker in parralel or series mise giving you more tonal variety. Overall great product and I would recommend this for purchase especially if you like p90 sounds.

The Ultimate Sonic Chameleon

If tones were colors, this would truly the chameleon of guitar pickups. I have owned a 1954 Strat, a 1959 Les Paul Standard, and a double cutaway dual P-90 1958 Les Paul. I mention these guitars because the P-Rails produces all those tones with the turn of a knob. I have installed them on a Gibson SG with a 2 volumes, 1 tone, and a Precision Music Technologies Humbucker Control. The PMT Humbucker Control gives the single coil at position One, and Full Humbucker at position 10. The control is push/pull, so up is the P-90 coil and down is the Strat coil. Setting the control between 1 and 10 gives a blend of one of the single coils and humbucker. The tone control is push/pull for parallel. I love the broad sonic pallet available. The Strat and P-90 sounds are great, and the humbucker is strong and clean. I am installing much the same setup in a BC Rich Polarity (a deeper, hollowed out version of the Mockingbird), and it will be interesting to blend the P-Rails with the piezo-acoustic bridge. BTW, my first experience with Seymour Duncan pickups was back in the 80's when I bought pickups for a Strat; a pair of 2N-J's in the neck and middle positions with a 1B.J (that's what is still visible, the first character could be an L) for the bridge. The bridge pickup has individual pole pieces, while the others are stacked rail type pickups. Completely quiet with bell like tones, or biting attack if you crank the bridge pickup. Still have them installed on a Strat, and I will never replace them, because it's the best sounding Strat I've ever played or owned. I applaud Seymour Duncan for designing innovative, musical products that let us raise our level of creativity.

Worth the money

I've had these for several years. Put them in an Epiphone Les Paul, then moved them to an Epi SG (they sounded better in the Paul, but I no longer have that guitar). As the inventor says, the heart and soul of them is the P-90s, both of which sound really great--they're essentially just what you'd expect from a good P90. Because of the somewhat drastic coil mismatch, the humbuckers in series are a little darker than I'd like, and quite high output, but definitely useable. The rails are a little weak, but pleasant. With the second installation, I added the Triple Shot switching, which, combined with the normal toggle, basically allow any combination of coils, including either series or parallel humbuckers. Absolutely the most versatile thing imaginable, and with a core P90 tone (as i think of it) that's sweet, rich, and gnarly (each of them sound beautiful, and they sound great in combination as well). You can basically do anything you can think of with these and the Triple Shots, and it'll sound somewhere between good and great (depending on the combination).
