Description

The Pegasus was originally designed for extended range instruments. However, 6 string players immediately demanded we offer a version to call their own. It incorporates an alnico 5 bar magnet and custom winding specs. The goal was to deliver a warm, balanced, responsive, and lush tone for progressive metal. It’s a harmonically rich pickup with a prominent midrange and a focused low end. The high resonant peak makes for a sparkly top end and an incredible “bloom” on chords in high-gain situations. The responsive and accurate pick attack ensures that you will cut through any live mix, and will have tight-tracking transients in a studio environment.

Because the Pegasus is a moderate output pickup, it works as well for clean tones as it does for distorted tones. Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA, factory, the Pegasus features an alnico 5 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. Available in standard 6-string humbucker and Trembucker spacings, as well as for 7 and 8-string extended range guitars.

The Pegasus is an awesome

The Pegasus is an awesome pickup for metal. I love the tones I'm getting out of it. It was my first time swapping my own pickups but with a little diligence and seymour Duncan's easy to understand diagrams the process was pretty easy and my guitar sounds better than ever. So don't let a certain YouTuber tell you pickups don't affect tone because the Pegasus definitely gave me the tone I've been chasing for a while and has breathed new life into a guitar that didn't see much use before. Now its hard to put down. Thanks Seymour Duncan.

Rock Solid

Just got my second Pegasus in from the custom shop. MJ really knocked this out of the park. I replaced the full shred in my HSS DK-24 and immediately heard and felt a huge difference between the two. After nearly a decade of being in love with this pickup it still holds up to the way that I play

Pickups sounds great. The sentient

Pickups sounds great. The sentient didn't come with a pickup ring though like the pegasus did. I have an off color one bit would like to get them matching.

Crisp when clean or driven

Crisp when clean or driven to the summit, this pickup really snarls like a puma. Nice little bass in there to give the bridge just a touch of heft.

My New Favorite!

I recently picked up an ESP LTD SN-1000FR that came equipped with Duncan pickups. was pleasantly surprised by the Pegasus and the more I play it the more I love it. Love the articulation and clarity of the pickup and will be replacing the bridge pickup in my other guitars, 6 and 7, with a Pegasus. FANTASTIC, versatile pickup.

The Trve Black Winter 🤘

I have a 6 string ESP LTD SN-1000 Evertune, Alder body, maple neck. It is loaded with a Pegasus in the bridge and 2 hot strat singles. I am tuned in E standard. Although, this pickup is being marketed to the progressive metal crowd - In reality it is a dark horse ascending the 6 heavens in pure satanic glory. Yes, all those glorious tritones, inversions and finger bending chords ring out perfectly under the devils distortion. Incredible clarity under full blown chords while tremolo picking across all 6 strings at once. I have owned the black winter as well and although I like it, I think the black winter is better at thrash and death metal. The Pegasus is much better for full anti-palm muted, strumming black metal. I also think this pickup sounds great for power metal and traditional heavy metal. You can also do thrash and death metal extra but I personally think the bright present clarity it dishes out for Kvlt black metal is one of the best I have heard. The day I received this guitar I immediately started playing 1349, and thought wow the perfect black metal pickup and completely marketed to the wrong group. Anyway, just my thoughts. 🤘🤘🤘

I bought the 8 string

I bought the 8 string set of Pegasus/Sentient and I am very pleased. I had a set of stock ceramic pups but these really have such a great midrange and plenty of gain for any metal and still remain quiet. I would certainly recommend and would purchase again.

Excellent high output I'd recommend

Excellent high output I'd recommend to anyone after biting tones that aren't necessarily fans of ceramic magnets.

Clear, Balanced, and Brutal

I hardly ever write reviews unless I really enjoy a product….Ill start by saying these pickups gave me exactly what I wanted. The amount of clarity you get (even through saturated high gain) with these pickups is insane. You can really hear every note and they dont “overpower” or drown out one another on big chords. Another thing I love about these is how balanced they are. Not to much or too little of anything, just balanced perfectly (atleast for my tastes). Even with these qualities they remain brutal af too! Im very happy I took the chance and got these. Well worth!

I love it!

Years ago I had SH2/SH4 set in my 6 string guitar and I was not amazed with them, I was rather Dimarzio guy. Then I swithced to 7 and 8 string guitars - Dimarzio uses ceramic magnets only for 7 and 8 string guitars, and they didn't sound good to my ears. I used for few years Lace X bars and the sounded really even but lets say with no "life" - a proper sound. Then I decided to give a try to Seymour Duncan pickups and they broke the bank! This was the best choice I could make. I play mostly cleans, sometimes light drives (dod looking glass). I use Sentient/Pegasus 8 (a perfect match), SD is one of the few who uses alnico magnets for 8 strng pickups, and I think this makes them sound so good, they sound really warm and fat but still with lot of definition, very even, bass is tight and sits perfect in a mix, they have a vintage feel but modern definition, my guitar got a new life with them, I could not be more happy. Thank you SD!!

....and you can flat pick too

I have a 3 piece Prog metal band but I do not want to lose half my audience, They are called 'lady's' LOL So I add verses or a chorus or just a middle 8 in my tunes where I flatpick things that even a Beatle audience would enjoy. My material is much more interesting and much more dynamic. If you play flat out you have nowhere to go because you are in overdrive with your foot on the mat! The Pegasus PU can pull it all off ...but if I don't tell you ...you would never know. 🙂

Best of both worlds

Great pick-up for most styles. Articulate and smooth for almost every style of music. Hotter than traditional PAF-style pups, but still cleans up nicely when backing off the volume. Very pleased, 10/10 would buy again.
