Description

Originally called the Custom Custom Custom, the Custom 5 high output humbucker pickup began life in our Custom Shop as a response to players requesting a brighter, alnico 5 version of the popular Custom Custom humbucker. It has a nice, full tone, a scooped midrange, and strikes a nice balance of bass & treble. This even response makes it extremely versatile and great for all types of music and playing styles.

Match the Custom 5 with the 59 or Jazz neck model humbuckers for a perfectly balanced setup. Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Custom 5 uses an alnico 5 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and is vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. Available in both standard humbucker or Trembucker spacing for 6-String, and in a passive mount 7-string configuration.

very good

While the midrange is somewhat recessed, this results in more pronounced lows and highs, giving the sound a wider and more polished character. When applied to metal, it produces a particularly rich and resonant tone that is highly appealing

I paired this with the Whole Lotta Humbucker!

I would've given it more than 5 stars if I could. This is the first non-JB I've put in my Les Paul in 20 years. I've paired it with an SH-18 in the neck, and used the 4 push-pull Jimmy Page wiring. My reason for the switch from the JB after so long, is that I'm using a Helix Stomp as my main rig and I wanted a cleaner tone with similar output. I've been a full time gigging musician for 32 years, and I feel like having a cleaner output from the guitar to the modeler provides me with more flexibility for any type of situation. I used to play through my Jubilee all the time with a 59/JB combination, but having the cleaner/louder combo is better for me now given that I play a lot of places that won't allow me to bring my amp.

Simply Great

Bought this for my 2023 Gibson Les Paul Standard. Stock bridge pickup was decent but I wanted a little more low end and a little more punch. I thought about the JB like usual, but I decided I wanted a little less output. I'm a lover of alnico v magnets and wanted to stick with that. I came across this pickup basically on accident and said why not? Holy crap. This thing is amazing. From cleans to heavy distortion, it takes it all in stride, in a very clear and smooth way. It plays well in the sandbox with the stock gibson neck pickup as well so that's a huge plus. You have to try this pickup.

Great pickup!!!

I have been trying a few pickups for the bridge of my Les Paul. Search over, Custom 5 is the sound I was looking for! Pairs great with a Jazz in neck. Mainly a classic rock player and the Custom 5 does it for me!

Great hard rock/metal pickup

I replaced the factory bridge pickup in my 1997 Washburn Dime guitar, wow made such a difference! Has such a metal sound now. I noticed Washburn was using this in there Parallaxe lineup, now I see why. Great metal pickups.

The definition of versatile.

I've had a love affair with the Custom line for a number of years now. When I get a new guitar I usually try one of the variations in it. And the great thing is, if it doesn't quite jive with that guitar, a simple magnet swap will yield amazing results! The Custom 5 in particular is doing the trick fore right now. My guitar has some honky midrange that is completely mitigated by the frequency 'scoop'. Great note separation and a fantastic growl when overdriven. It has some serious low end, but a little bit of EQ'ing makes that a non issue for me. Just my two cents, but this pickup is always worth a shot in any guitar routed for it.

Wowee, this pup kicks ass!

Wowee, this pup kicks ass! Second one I've owned and just got done installing this in my ibanez rg. Huge upgrade over the ibanez pups. Awesome for classic rock blues and even metal which is what I mainly use it for. I wanted a mid output humbucker for more dynamics than a "metal" pickup. Love the alnico v magnets too, super usable tone.

Great pickup. Very clear sounding.

Great pickup. Very clear sounding. Not a very high output humbucker but definitely not a vintage type either. Not for modern metal but can do clean, pop, blues-rock, hard rock and classic metal well. High treble and bass and a bit scooped sounding. Works well especially for rhythm guitar IMO. Paul Stanley and Metal Mike Chlasciak both used them. I love it...

Perfect hard rock pickup

Replaced the super distortion bridge pup I had in my charvel with a custom 5. Much smoother attack with big sound that stays impressively clear under high gain. Cleans up nicely as well. Highly recommend for anybody who wants a good high gain sound without the brittleness ceramic pickups sometimes have

Brutally astonishing

Amazing pickup, I installed it in an old B Standard kramer for death metal and now I use it again in an old HM STRAT for shredding, totally recommended.
