Billy Gibbons Gilly Tele Lead

Designed to capture the magic of Billy Gibbons’ legendary Tele tone, but with a fuller and smoother voice.

If you made a Mt. Rushmore of guitar tone, you’d have to carve into it the bearded face of Mr. Billy F. Gibbons. And if you want to grab a piece of Billy’s legendary Tele tone, you’ve got a cool new way to do it. The Gilly has everything that a great Telecaster pickup should have, with a couple of interesting twists. Thanks to its custom wind and the use of Alnico V magnets, the Gilly speaks with a rounder, smoother voice, while retaining all the snap and pop of the original. The Gilly’s stack design delivers all that tone without the hum, making it as comfortable with high-gain rock tones as it is with bluesy spank and shimmery cleans.

The Gilly pays tribute to the great women who inspire Billy. It’s named for his wife and it’s wound by the Duncan Custom Shop’s MJ—La Maestra, Maricela Juarez.

  • All the goodness of the classic Billy Gibbons Tele tone, with a new wind and Alnico V magnets for a fuller, smoother sound.
  • The stack design ensures noise-free operation, even at Texas-sized gain levels.
  • The Gilly is a tribute to the women who inspire Billy—named for his wife and wound by MJ.

The Gilly is made in Santa Barbara, California.

Brad Paisley Secret Agent

When is a one-pickup guitar not a one-pickup guitar? To answer that riddle, we’ll let you in on a little secret.

Brad Paisley and Seymour Duncan are both big fans of the Fender Esquire—a single-pickup guitar that curiously still has a 3-way switch that selects tonal variations on the bridge pickup. Brad wanted to add some neck-pickup versatility while still maintaining the classic Esquire look. Enter the Secret Agent, a neck single-coil that resides under the pickguard, stealthy, hidden from sight. (Get it?) Seymour went with a medium-output ceramic bar magnet to help the Secret Agent accomplish its mission. Because it’s further from the strings with less magnetic pull, this design provides a full, warm, almost jazzy neck-pickup tone, which perfectly complements the Esquire bridge model’s bark and snarl. It all adds up to what Brad calls “my favorite Tele neck pickup.”

Want to turn your Esquire into an undercover operation? You’ll need the Secret Agent. The Brad Paisley Signature Custom Shop “Secret Agent” Esquire Neck Pickup. Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA.

Joe Bonamassa’s ’63 Cradle Rock Strat® Set

Joe Bonamassa first laid eyes on the “Cradle Rock” Strat® as a teenager at the Philadelphia Guitar Show in 1994. He purchased the then-pristine 1963 Sunburst Fender Stratocaster®, and it became one of the most sentimental pieces in his collection. Named after the Rory Gallagher tune Joe recorded on his debut album, the pickups in this Strat® had a distinctive powerful sound that he wanted to share with guitarists chasing this seminal tone. The limited edition has sold out, but you can still purchase the non-limited version from our Custom Shop!

Joe Bonamassa’s “The Bludgeon” 1951 Nocaster®

Anyone who knows Joe Bonamassa knows that his guitar collection contains some of the most sought after and incredible sounding instruments ever produced. So when he says that one instrument is “the best guitar he’s ever owned”, it must be a truly special piece. “The Bludgeon” is Joe’s 1951 Fender Nocaster®, and it came into his life in 2014. He has played it in almost every show he has performed since.

When Joe found this guitar, a P.A.F Humbucker had already been installed in the neck, which paired “in a beautiful way” with the flat-pole single-coil bridge pickup for a uniquely inspiring sound and “the most dynamic instrument” he has ever played.

When the Fender Custom Shop recreated “The Bludgeon” for a limited run in 2021, Seymour Duncan was honored to replicate the pickups to Joe’s high standards. The Seymour Duncan Custom Shop team duplicated the warm sounding, unpotted P.A.F neck humbucker with a rough cast Alnico 2 magnet. The original tele bridge pickup was incredibly worn, and also featured Alnico 2 magnets. Next, the team captured the bright response and hot output that makes the bridge pickup so special to Joe – especially when working in tandem with the neck humbucker.

At long last, this extraordinary set of pickups is available to all through the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop. The first 250 are relic’d with the special Antiquity aging process for a vintage look, and their bottom plates have been signed by Joe, Seymour W. Duncan, and our very own Queen of Tone, Maricela “MJ” Juarez, who winds each of these in our Custom Shop. After these 250 limited edition sets are sold, “The Bludgeon” pickups will be available with standard Custom Shop cosmetic options so everyone can experience and enjoy the unique sonic qualities these pickups offer.

Joe Bonamassa’s “The Blonde Dot®” 1960 P.A.F. Humbucker Set

Joe Bonamassa’s collection of vintage guitars is full of treasures from the golden era of electric guitar manufacture. This means Joe knows a thing or two about Gibson’s® P.A.F. humbuckers – the earliest versions of Seth Lover’s milestone innovation in pickup design. Vintage Gibson ES-335s® are known to be some of the finest semi-hollow instruments ever built—and the P.A.F. humbuckers they were originally equipped with are the vessel for the powerful sound and sustain that these guitars are known for.

When Seymour Duncan approached Bonamassa to recreate a set of humbuckers from one of his favorite ES-335s®, he was quick to bring us one of the finest instruments in his collection – his rare 1960 dot®-neck Gibson ES-335® with blonde finish, aptly named “The Blonde Dot®”. Purchased from a friend who had an impressive collection of vintage dot® neck 335s, Joe found that the pickups in the pristine Blonde Dot® were some of the most balanced P.A.F.s in his collection.

Careful to keep the guitar in its immaculate condition – Seymour Duncan measured and recorded the original pickups to faithfully recreate them as “The Blonde Dot®” 1960 P.A.F. Humbucker Set. Joe describes the neck pickup as “stratty and clear” and the bridge pickup as “punchy and dark”, making a balanced set that he knew would sound good in any guitar. To capture these tones, this vintage set uses an Alnico 2 magnet in the neck, whereas a stronger Alnico 4 magnet was found to best deliver the qualities of the original bridge pickup. To match the like-new original Blonde Dot®, the nickel covers are unaged and come with black pickup rings. The first 800 sets come in limited edition packaging, and with bottom plates signed by Bonamassa and Seymour Duncan himself. After these limited-edition sets are sold, “The Blonde Dot®” pickups will be available with standard Custom Shop cosmetic options to perfectly match your ES-335®, Les Paul®, or any guitar that demands great P.A.F. humbucker tone.

The Joe Bonamassa 1950 Broadcaster® Pickups

In the history of electric guitars, few are as iconic as the Fender Broadcaster®. As few as 250 of these instruments are believed to have been built from the fall of 1950 to the spring of 1951, before Fender transitioned the model to what we all know as the Telecaster® at the end of 1951. To say Broadcasters® are incredibly rare is an understatement, and to find one in pristine condition is an even greater challenge. Lucky for all of us, our friend and vintage guitar authority Joe Bonamassa had a very special one in his collection with a tone so remarkable that he wanted to share it with the world. Carefully testing and documenting the original guitar’s pickups, the Seymour Duncan team was able to faithfully recreate the sound and look of Joe’s coveted 1950 Fender Broadcaster®.

The Joe Bonamassa 1950 Broadcaster® pickups are a faithful replica of the set found in this guitar. Joe describes the neck pickup as bright and perfectly balanced with the punchy flat-pole bridge pickup. Authentic to Leo Fender’s original design, these pickups evoke the early days of blues, rock & roll, and country.

Built in the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop, this set features Alnico 2 magnets in the neck, Alnico 4 magnets in the bridge, and cloth push-back cable. The raw steel bottom plates of the first 250 sets will be signed by Joe and Seymour W Duncan and will also be aged to match the original set from Joe’s guitar. These sets will be numbered in limited edition packaging.

After the 250 limited edition sets have sold out, Joe and the Seymour Duncan Custom Shop will offer these pickups as built-to-order models.

Hot Rodded Rails Set

This exciting variation on Seymour’s classic humbucker combination from the 1970’s honors our long tradition of tonal excellence, while adding the modern tone, feel, and look of rails.

The JB Rails offers the modern player a unique combination – bringing together the Seymour Duncan JB Model with rail design. This configuration retains the classic character of our JB Model with its powerful low-end, strong highs, and upper-midrange bump which has made it the go-to lead pickup for countless luminaries.

Our Jazz Rails neck pickup is a variation on our historically popular Jazz Model, well known for shimmering treble response and solid, well-defined bass even in the most overdriven situations.

Rail design evenly distributes the magnetic field across the strings, enhancing string-to-string balance with increased clarity and sustain. The result is perfect for modern high-gain applications, and it looks as hot as it sounds.

Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, these humbucker pickups use Alnico 8 bar magnets, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance. The set is available in both 6 and 7 string versions.
