Hot Stack® Strat

When your guitar has a Hot Stack Strat pickup, the powerful ceramic bar magnet surrounded by two stacked coils sends more current into your amp, so you get more midrange and a stronger attack than a standard Stratocaster pickup can deliver. Our overwound Hot Stack Strat uses a blade instead of rod magnets to provide even string balance, no drop-outs when bending, and a beefed-up tone without any of the traditional single-coil hum.

The blade construction and patented hum- and noise-eliminating Stack design are perfect for adding some vintage-hot mojo to your stock guitar. This pickup would be a great upgrade to any Strat in either the bridge or neck position, but remember this: The Hot Stack Strat is the go-to middle pickup in modified Teles for countless Nashville session aces. Want to take your Strat—or your Tele—to the next level? Look into a Hot Stack Strat.

Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Hot Stack Strat noiseless Strat pickup uses a ceramic bar magnet, 4-conductor lead wire, and is wax potted for squeal-free operation.

  • Neck/Middle position models will have the same output, wind direction and magnetic polarity.

Five-Two™ Tele

The Five-Two was originally designed for Nashville studio players who wanted a classic Telecaster pickup that could produce a softer treble attack on the high strings while retaining all of the articulate snap on the low strings. We came up with a mixture of Alnico 2 and Alnico 5 rod magnets that delivers the best of both worlds. The Alnico 2 rods positioned under the G, B, and E strings provide a sweetened treble response, while the Alnico 5 rods under the low E, A, and D strings contribute a bright, snappy tone with enhanced midrange and articulation. This combination results in an all-around well-balanced pickup with traditional output that delivers all the twang and pop of a great Tele with none of the “ice pick” treble.

The Five-Two neck pickup is RWRP (reverse wind, reverse polarity), so when used with the bridge model you get sweet hum-free tone. The authentic look and sound of this classic Telecaster pickup are brought together by a hand-built Forbon bobbin, waxed cloth hookup wire, standard .187″ diameter Alnico 2 and Alnico 5 rod magnets, a copper-plated steel bottom plate, a deep drawn chrome-plated brass cover for the rhythm pickup, and wax potting.

Five-Two™ Strat

The Five-Two classic Stratocaster pickup was originally designed for Nashville studio players who wanted to soften the treble attack on their high strings while retaining all of the articulate snap on the low strings. The solution was a mixture of Alnico 5 and Alnico 2 rod magnets that delivers the best of both worlds. The Alnico 5s under the low E, A, and D strings keep them sounding clear and crisp while the Alnico 2 rods under the G, B, and E strings provide a sweetened treble response.

The custom-wound bridge pickup is slightly hotter—exactly what a bridge single-coil needs—and is calibrated for full-bodied sustain and a stronger attack. Add to it the Five-Two neck pickup and Five-Two custom RWRP middle pickup and the complete set produces glorious Strat tone with hum-free operation in positions 2 and 4. Like all of our vintage Fender-style single-coil pickups, we start with the right color and thickness of Forbon flatwork.

Along with the period-correct magnet stagger, this pickup comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth push-back hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plate. We hand file the flatwork, assemble, and lacquer the bobbin just as it was done during Fender’s Golden Age of classic Stratocaster pickups.

  • Middle RwRP position (reverse wind/reverse polarity) – choose this to have a pickup that will be hum-cancelling with one of our neck or bridge models.

Hot Tele

Tame the twang and give your Tele increased midrange cut and punch with the Hot for Tele pickups. If you were to begin with a vintage tele neck pickup, wind it hotter, mellow the highs and enhance the midrange response, the result would be the Hot Tele Rhythm. The treble response is still articulate, but it is smoothed out by the more aggressive low end. Great for full sounding chords and sweet solo work.

The Hot Tele Lead pickup uses flat, hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets and a special high output coil wind to give you enough midrange power to cut through like a humbucker. The absence of a steel bottom-plate gives you a fat, full punch in both the low and mid-range frequencies, yet it retains the muscular twang of a vintage style lead pickup. Great for Telecaster players who demand a more powerful lead tone, with extra presence and drive. The bridge model is also available in a tapped version, giving you access to vintage and high output tones in one pickup!

These are hand built in Santa Barbara, and use hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets, along with the traditional deep drawn chrome plated Telecaster cover and lacquer dipped bobbins. Wax potted for squeal free performance.

Quarter Pound™ Tele

Power up your Telecaster with the upper midrange growl and drive of the Quarter Pound for Tele pickups. The Quarter Pound for Tele Rhythm’s custom overwound coil provides a powerful midrange that cuts through any mix without sounding bright or brash. This makes it a rhythm beast with huge sounding chords, and full, fat lead tones.

The Quarter Pound Tele Lead is our highest output Tele single coil. Its special high output coil, with hand polished ¼” diameter alnico 5 rod magnets, deliver a huge sound with an almost P90-like growl. Leads will jump out and sound fatter than ever, while chords will be rich with sparkly midrange harmonics. The perfect choice for Tele players who demand to be heard.

Both pickups are available in an optional tapped variation as well, allowing you to tap into both vintage and high output tonalities with a single Tele set. The Quarter Pound high output Tele pickups are hand built in Santa Barbara, CA using hand polished ¼” diameter alnico 5 rod magnets, and Forbon flatwork along with a traditional deep drawn chrome plated Telecaster cover for the neck. Wax potted for squeal free performance.

Custom Flat Strat

For guitarists who prefer lighter strings or play guitars with flatter fretboards, the flat Alnico 5 rod magnets provide a nice even string balance, and really help to punch up the sound of light-gauge guitar strings without losing the sparkle that makes a Strat sound so unique.

The Custom Flat for Strat is a specially overwound single-coil that strikes the perfect balance between increased output, and bouncy Stratocaster tonal character. Your single notes will sound bold, and your solos will really sing. The middle position Custom Flat RWRP for Stratocaster uses the same flat hand-ground Alnico 5 rod magnets and special high-output coil winding as the standard version, but is made reverse wound/reverse polarity to provide noiseless operation when combined with the neck or bridge pickups in positions 2 and 4. On its own, it will give you the same balanced, beefed up, and punchy tone as the standard wound model.

Use a full set of Custom Flat Strat pickups for an extra big-sounding Strat, or use a Custom Flat in the bridge position with a pair of Vintage Flats in the neck and middle for a more versatile setup. These bobbins are hand built with Forbon, dipped in lacquer then wound and wax potted for squeal-free performance. We use modern oval Forbon flatwork (non-triangular), which enables this medium-output Stratocaster pickup to fit into any guitar that is routed for single-coils.

  • Neck/Middle/Bridge position models will have the same output, wind direction and magnetic polarity.
  • Middle RwRP position (reverse wind/reverse polarity) – choose this to have a pickup that will be hum-cancelling with one of our neck or bridge models.
  • All sets, except the Jimi Hendrix signature model, come with a Middle RWRP as the Middle Pickup.

Custom Staggered™ Strat

David Gilmour needed a pumped-up sound for his famous Black Strat, so Seymour wound what became the Custom Staggered medium-output Stratocaster pickup. It has been, and continues to be, an honor to work with such a legend. The Custom Staggered is a special overwound single-coil that strikes a great balance between increased output and classic Stratocaster tonal character. It will deliver bigger, fatter chords, and will cut through the mix more clearly than a traditional Strat pickup, all the while maintaining the magic and mojo that make a Strat sound like a Strat. Single notes are bold and loud, and solos truly sing. Use in the bridge position with a pair of Vintage Staggered Strat pickups in the neck and middle for the Gilmour-approved setup. Use a Custom Staggered RWRP in the middle for noiseless setup in positions 2 and 4.

The Custom Staggered Strat pickup is also available in a 7-string version. The bobbins are built with hand-ground Alnico 5 rod magnets, lacquered and wound, and are wax potted for squeal-free performance. We use modern oval Forbon flatwork (non-triangular) which enables this pickup to fit into any guitar that is routed for single coils.

  • Left- for some models with vintage staggered pole pieces, we offer a left-handed option. The stagger will be reversed for left-handed players.
  • Tapped- High output models may have a “tap” option available. An additional lead wire is placed midway through the coil wind, allowing wiring to a push-pull pot or mini-toggle switch to give an additional vintage output level option.

Quarter Pound™ Strat

With more than twice the power of a traditional Stratocaster single-coil, the Quarter Pound pickups will transform any Stratocaster into a mean growling beast, bring you a fat, punchy tone with plenty of top end sparkle. These high output Strat pickups will give you big, beefy chords, and single notes will jump out in a way that no other pickup can deliver. The individually hand-polished ¼” diameter alnico 5 magnets help to give it plenty of the high-end sparkle and upper midrange harmonics that make this pickup so special.

The middle pickup is RW/RP for noiseless operation in positions 2 & 4. The neck/bridge and middle pickups are available in an optional tapped variation as well, allowing you to tap into both vintage and high output tonalities with a single set. These bobbins are hand built, dipped in lacquer, then wound and wax potted for squeal free performance. We use modern ‘oval’ Forbon flatwork (non-triangular) which enables the Quarter Pound high output Strat pickups to fit into any guitar that is routed for single coils.

  • Tapped- High output models may have a “tap” option available. An additional lead wire is placed midway through the coil wind, allowing wiring to a push-pull pot or mini-toggle switch to give an additional vintage output level option.

Hot Strat

The Hot Strat high-output pickup will deliver more output and musical midrange than your beloved Stratocaster has ever had. This pickup takes the classic high-end sparkle and adds a slightly lower-voiced, humbucker-like cut that will make your chords sound explosive and your solos jump out like never before. The sound is warmer and hotter than a traditional Strat pickup, rich with punchy harmonics. The raised flat Alnico 5 rod magnets are taller for a stronger and deeper magnetic field that increases output, and the overwound coil delivers additional power and warmth—great for getting heavy sounds from a Strat.

A popular choice for a Strat’s bridge position, the Hot Strat combines well with vintage-voiced Strat pickups for a modern, flexible guitar. We also fabricate a RW/RP, reverse wound/reverse polarity, version so that, when installed in the middle position and combined with the neck or bridge pickups, it will be hum-cancelling and give you the biggest 2 & 4 sound possible without the 60-cycle hum.

The Hot Strat’s bobbins are hand built using the unique, high-output coil wind and taller, hand-ground Alnico 5 rod magnets, lacquered for stability, then wound and wax potted for squeal-free performance. Available in a tapped configuration for multiple output options.

  • Tapped- High output models may have a “tap” option available. An additional lead wire is placed midway through the coil wind, allowing wiring to a push-pull pot or mini-toggle switch to give an additional vintage output level option.

Brad Paisley La Brea™

In 2017, after a long search for the perfect guitar, Brad Paisley acquired an original 1968 Telecaster. The guitar played beautifully but had unfortunately been refinished in black acrylic paint. So, Brad brought the guitar to veteran luthier and paisley paper expert, Bill Crook, to have the black paint stripped away to have a classic ’68 paisley pattern applied instead. After removing some of the thick black paint, Bill stumbled on a surprise that would shock them both: Fender’s original pink paisley finish from 1968! Brad dubbed the guitar La Brea, because the black paint hiding the perfectly intact, all-original pink paisley paper reminded him of the tar pits in Southern California. At this point, Brad loved almost everything about La Brea, but there was still something that wasn’t quite right – the pickups. Naturally, Brad called his buddy Seymour W. Duncan, and together they created the perfect, vintage accurate matched pickups – the Brad Paisley Signature La Brea Telecaster Set.

The bridge model features alnico IV rod magnets, vintage-correct cloth push-back wire, vintage output of 7.44k, and classic grey forbon flatwork, giving you the wonderful open quality that you expect from a vintage pickup, but with the focused midrange that only an alnico IV magnet can provide. The neck pickup uses alnico II rod magnets alongside an output of 7.55k, and the same period-correct wire and flatwork to provide a smooth, thick neck tone. Together, these pickups deliver the snap and twang that Brad is known for, with a round top end and full but tight lows. Seymour wound what Brad calls “the perfect set” for his beloved ’68 La Brea Telecaster, and now you can get it too. The Brad Paisley Signature La Brea Telecaster Set, hand built in Santa Barbara, CA.
