Vintage Tele

To complement the distinct twang and punch of the Vintage 54 Lead, our Telecaster Vintage Rhythm vintage output tele pickup was designed for a smooth open tone with warm lower mids and airy highs. With its hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets, this neck pickup will deliver big full sounding chords. When used in combination with the bridge pickup, you’ll get that famous hollow Tele sound. Warm enough for most types of rhythm playing, but percussive enough for chicken pickin’ as well.

Keeping with that authentic Tele feel, we hand assemble the bobbin with the period correct color and thickness Forbon and alnico 5 rod magnets, then lacquer it before winding. We add a deep drawn chrome plated brass cover, cloth pushback lead wires, then wax pot like the originals.

Vintage Broadcaster

A faithful tribute to the 1950 original, our Vintage Broadcaster is the perfect choice for discerning players who demand something more from their Tele lead pickup. Our Broadcaster uses a special wind that best represents this pioneering era in Fender history. The Alnico 5 magnets with a slightly larger diameter of .197 and higher output coax biting treble and snarly mids for raucous riffs and stinging lead runs from any Telecaster. Try it in front of a fuzz pedal for that unmistakable British rock sound. Pair with our Vintage Tele Rhythm for great vintage setup.

Like all our Vintage models, we stay true to the smallest details. We hand grind our magnets, then hand assemble the bobbins from the traditional Forbon and dip them in lacquer before winding. The lacquer stabilizes the Forbon for decades of use. After winding, the pickup is wrapped with black cotton yarn and vintage style waxed cloth hookup wire is soldered to the coil eyelets. Wax potting with the classic tele copper plated steel bottom plate installed completes the pickup for squeal free performance.

Vintage ’54™ Tele

‘For Telecaster players seeking a straight forward approach to the bridge tone that helped define rock, blues, and country, we offer the Vintage 54 Tele Lead vintage output tele pickup. Its hand ground alnico 5 rod magnets with a raised D and G, coupled with a lower output wind, yield a bright, well defined treble response that is perfectly suited to plucky lead work and fast-moving chords from Chicago to Nashville.

Vintage Flat Strat

The Vintage Flat for Stratocaster delivers all the chime and sparkle of our Vintage Staggered Strat model, but has flat alnico 5 rod magnets that provide a more even string balance for modern guitars with a larger neck radius, and players using lighter gauge strings. The flat poles also give this pickup a little less edge for an overall smoother tone.

The middle pickup is reverse wound, reverse polarity to provide hum-canceling operation in positions 2 & 4, along with the perfect clucky in-between sound. Use a full set for a truly vintage vibe or use in the neck & middle with a Custom Flat in the bridge for a more rocking setup. If purchased as a calibrated set, the bridge pickup is wound slightly hotter for better overall balance between positions.

Aside from the flat pole pieces, we use all of the same materials to build these as we do our vintage Fender style single coil pickups. We start by assembling the bobbins with the proper color and thickness of Forbon flatwork, and we hand file the flatwork, assemble, and lacquer our bobbins just as it was done during Fenders Golden Age. This pickup is potted and comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plate.

  • Neck/Middle/Bridge position models will have the same output, wind direction and magnetic polarity.
  • Middle RwRP position (reverse wind/reverse polarity) – choose this to have a pickup that will be hum-cancelling with one of our neck or bridge models.
  • All sets, except the Jimi Hendrix signature model, come with a Middle RWRP as the Middle Pickup.

Vintage Staggered Strat

Our Vintage Staggered for Stratocaster pickups (SSL-1) use hand-ground alnico 5 rod magnets and heavy Formvar mag wire with a special wind pattern to produce that bright, glassy, bell tone with all of the bounce and sparkle you would expect from the best Strat pickups from the 50s. The treble attack is crisp and immediate, while the low end remains articulate and focused. Chords ring out with clear note-to-note separation.

The three pickup combination includes a standard wound neck and bridge pickup, and an RWRP, reverse wind reverse polarity, middle pickup for noise cancellation in the in-between positions. Since 1978, we’ve been building all our vintage Fender style single coil pickups with the right color and thickness of Forbon flatwork, along with the period correct magnet stagger. Each pickup comes complete with waxed and tinned cloth pushback hook-up wires and traditional keyed bottom plate. We hand file the flatwork, assemble, and lacquer the bobbin just as it was done during Fender’s Golden Age.

The Vintage Staggered for Strat pickups are hand built in Santa Barbara, CA and are potted in our wax formulation for squeal free performance. These vintage output Strat pickups are available with either a right or left-handed pole piece stagger, and are available for 6 and 7-string guitars.

  • Left- for some models with vintage staggered pole pieces, we offer a left-handed option. The stagger will be reversed for left-handed players.

Nazgûl™ & Sentient

Take your guitar to the center of the earth with the Nazgûl and Sentient high output passive humbucker pickups. The Nazgûl combines a large ceramic magnet with custom winding specs. The result is a perfect blend of note articulation, saturation, pick attack, and one of the most brutal chugs you’ll ever hear from a humbucker. It has incredible harmonic content across all frequency ranges, and an insanely tight bass response. The Nazgûl has a seriously aggressive high gain sound that is lively, yet completely controllable.

The Sentient neck delivers a balanced, versatile tone that fits right between our iconic ’59 and Jazz model neck pickups. You’ll get pristine cleans, and fluid leads under high gain. The Sentient is a very articulate vintage output pickup with great dynamic response and a wide harmonic range. It works great for low tunings in all humbucker-equipped guitars.

Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, the Nazgûl and Sentient both feature a large ceramic and alnico 5 bar magnet respectively, nickel silver bottom plate, and 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options. These high output passive humbucker pickups are also available in both 6-string and 7-string passive mount sets, and are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance.

Mayhem™ Set

The Duncan Distortion bridge is our original high-output humbucker. It incorporates a massive ceramic magnet and hot coil windings to deliver well-balanced rock and metal tones that have rich upper midrange harmonic content. Great for hard-hitting, crunchy rhythms, and searing lead tone. Riffs are tight and percussive and lead work is fast and immediate with ultra-clear pick dynamics.

Originally known as the SH-7 Seymourizer, the Duncan Distortion neck pickup is specifically designed for use with the matching high-output bridge version. It is hot enough to deliver smooth, fluid solo tones under high gain, while still producing bell-like clean tones.

Pegasus & Sentient™

The Pegasus/Sentient medium output humbucker pickup set offers progressive players the ultimate palette of modern metal tones. The Pegasus bridge was originally designed for extended range instruments. However, 6 string players immediately demanded we offer a version to call their own. It incorporates an alnico 5 bar magnet and custom winding specs. The goal was to deliver a warm, balanced, responsive, and lush tone for progressive metal. It’s a harmonically rich pickup with a prominent midrange and a focused low end. The high resonant peak makes for a sparkly top end and an incredible “bloom” on chords in high-gain situations. The responsive and accurate pick attack ensures that you will cut through any live mix and will have tight-tracking transients in a studio environment. Because the Pegasus is a moderate output pickup, it works as well for clean tones as it does for distorted tones.

The Sentient neck delivers a balanced, versatile tone that fits right between our iconic ’59 and Jazz model neck pickups. You’ll get pristine cleans and fluid leads under high gain. The Sentient is a very articulate vintage output pickup with great dynamic response and a wide harmonic range. It works great for low tunings in all humbucker-equipped guitars.

Vintage Blues™

While these vintage style coils give the 59 Model humbuckers an airy quality that keeps them planted firmly in the P.A.F. family, the alnico 5 bar magnet, and vacuum wax potting have been added to compensate for lighter guitar strings and louder amplifiers than were ever used in the 50s. The result is a pickup with tons of old-school tonal character, but with a brighter top end, and a more compressed sound.

The 59s are great for all types of rock and blues. In addition to the alnico 5 magnet and wax potting, we hand build the 59 Model with a variety of traditional vintage treatments, such as 42AWG plain enamel mag wire, long legged nickel silver bottom plate, vintage single-conductor braided push-back lead wire, and no logo. As with all of our P.A.F. style pickups, the 59 Model is wound on Seymour’s old Leesona winder from the early Gibson factory in Kalamazoo, MI.

Hot Rodded

Seymour created this classic humbucker combination while in England in 1974, and it remains his favorite set of pickups to this day – an SH-4 JB for the bridge and SH-2n Jazz Model for the neck. Together these pickups have become one of the most timeless and versatile humbucker sets ever built.

The JB Model humbucker is our most popular pickup of all time. It adds juice and versatility to the bridge position of any humbucker equipped guitar. With its hot coils and alnico 5 bar magnet, this pickup delivers an unmistakable upper midrange attack, a tight, articulate low end, and harmonically rich highs that really sing. The JB is the perfect bridge pickup for anything from blues & country to the meanest hard rock & metal.

The Jazz Model neck humbucker uses an alnico 5 bar magnet and a special coil wind for an articulate, glassy treble response that balances very well with its full, but tight low end. The scooped midrange gives this pickup a smooth tonal character all its own. Originally designed as the matching neck pickup for the JB Model bridge pickup, the Jazz is an incredibly versatile humbucker that will work for almost any style of music. The Jazz Model has been used by many great players over the decades, from Randy Rhoads to Jeff Beck to Seymour W Duncan.

Hand built in our Santa Barbara, CA factory, these humbucker pickups use an alnico 5 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and are vacuum wax potted for squeal-free performance.
