Description

Before Seymour built his own business, he was working for Fender Soundhouse in London. This was when The Yardbirds were kings and Seymour befriended some of his favorite musicians, and rewound pickups for them when they needed it. One of these custom rewind recipes went to a very special player, and as a result of Seymour’s meticulous record keeping, this pickup lives on today.

The recipe for this pickup set begins with a rough cast alnico 5 magnet, plain enamel wire, and Seymour’s unique winding pattern. The bridge is a vintage-hot 8.78k DC resistance and the neck is similarly beefy at 8.20k. The rough cast magnets add warmth and balance so everything sounds bigger. What is sonically unique about the Whole Lotta Humbucker pickups is the way that they push your amp and add a very slight natural compression and sustain to your sound.

Hand built in Santa Barbara, CA, the Whole Lotta Humbuckers use a rough cast alnico 5 bar magnet, nickel silver bottom plate, 4-conductor lead wire for multiple wiring options, and are wax potted for squeal free operation.

Awesome humbuckers! They're slightly more aggressive than the stock pickups but they are WAY more clear. If you're looking to retain the "classic rock" sound and add an articulate sound to your LP style guitar then this is your set. I installed these on a 60s style Epiphone Les Paul.

Very Pagey tone!

What a fantastic sounding set of PAF pickups. On the clean channel, the neck is warm and full yet it remains rounded and articulate. The bridge has just the right amount of brightness and quack, and the middle position is the most balanced, best sounding middle position I've ever heard. Add a little overdrive and you get that quintessential Jimmy Page buzzsaw growl in the bridge with a bit of tone rolled off. Worth every penny. SD make great pickups and these are no exception. My Tokai now sounds as good as it looks.

I’ve bought three (3) sets

I’ve bought three (3) sets of WLHs in the past year - all installed in LP Standards that replaced Burstbuckers. The difference was night & day! The WLHs provide just enough extra “oomph”, but are not in the Distortion or JB power range. Vintage +, with a dash of compression. I have some Saturday Night Specials in an SG and I’m sure they would have been great too for my LPs. Whichever you choose, you can’t go wrong.

The Whole Lotta Humbucker has

The Whole Lotta Humbucker has a great classic rock/PAF sound. I balance it with the Alternative 8 in the bridge to get a full range from Classic to modern rock & metal with a great blend between the two. The Whole Lotta Humbucker does excellent in the neck position & I have developed a preference for it with the screws closer to the bridge, or “backwards” from the normal neck pickup setup.

The Whole Lotta Humbuckers are

The Whole Lotta Humbuckers are the ultimate pickup for rock n roll, in my opinion. PAF tone with more power and impeccable string definition. I have 4 sets of these in my guitars and these define "my tone". Thanks to the team for bringing this to the world!

I've just bough a brand new Fujigen Neo Classic 30 equipped with two WLHs. Those are wonderful pickups with plenty of the 60's and 70's juice in them.

You think you know what

You think you know what you are getting when you listen to it over the internet BUT YOU ARE WRONG. Your speakers, your phone, Youtube, etc. cannot convey the tone, the outrageousness, and the classic power this pickup set has. IF YOU WANT ICONIC CLASSIC TONES: get these pickups.

Absolutely one of the most

Absolutely one of the most versatile pickups on the market. I dropped a pair into my Les Paul and I get so many compliments on the sound coming out of my guitar. I was hesitant to write this review simply because I don’t want the secret to get out, but I must give credit where it is due. These pickups are worth ever penny and outperforms more pricey options by a mile.

Holy cow that’s a lot of humbucker alright!

I have a passion for pickups and have purchased from all popular brands and many boutique models. I love the different sonic palette that each one brings. I love these pickups. To date these are the finest humbuckers I have ever used. The perfect amount of grunt and sweet. So responsive in slight volume adjustments. Worked great with pedals and straight cord to amp. Seymour Duncan will be seeing more of my business in the future.

Please excuse the audio, was taken from a phone. I have a 68 Gibson Les Paul Custom, Murphy lab Black Beauty ultralight aged, it had Alnico 2 pickups…I really like them but as soon as I put a whole Lotta humbucker‘s on (gold color) I have myself a fire breathing Dragon! It does everything I wish it to do….sings, purrs, meows, growls, roars. The high strings are just as pronounced as the lower ones, it does it all. Thank you guys! Peter K (Peter Black)

Awesome pickup set!

I've had these in my custom les paul for a few years now. I just love them. The notes just jump right out, notes very sensitive to picking nuance. I had been looking at the Pearly Gates & Slash set also. Both great pickup sets, but the Whole Lotta Humbucker set just slays. Highly recommended.

Faithful unplugged clean tone delivery, and then some

I have a custom build that's all solid walnut in both the body and neck. It has this amazing warm unplugged tone that a couple different pickups I tried just couldn't capture and reproduce. These pickups deliver that clean tone to the amp and it's glorious. Hotter distorted tones are equally amazing, but not so hot to lose the dynamics of the build. It sounds like my favorite classic albums being pumped through my amp

Whole Lotta Classic Rock Tones

Man am I happy I bought these. These tend to be more on the warm side, even in the bridge position but not overly so but you can EQ it on your amp to add more treble. The dirty tones are just phenomenal. They have that unmistakable classic rock sound that you expect to hear from a pickup named after Jimmy Page. I run my guitar through my Fender Pugilist Distortion and into my Fender Champ 40 amp and it sounds like I'm running it through a Marshall. It has great grit but it cleans up really well with crystal clear note separation and clarity. Really happy with these pickups. Then again I've never been disappointed by anything Seymour Duncan makes

Fantastic performers- made in heaven match for a Les Paul

Been using these pickups since they were introduced. They can do nearly anything well- clean, crunch, overdrive...can't recommend them enough. I have a "Magic 7" setting use with the bridge pickup where I set the Volume and Tone to 7, and a wah pedal about 70% cocked, and I get this magic honk crunch tone that sounds great with any song. Love 'em!

New life to my LP

I have a Epiphone LP Standard since 2000. Never had the courage to use it live, as I start to become a better guitar player and did not like how it sounds but love to play it.. after changing the pickups set for WLH, it is sounding so amazing some people really though I was playing a more expensive guitar. The cleans sounds are good but the great moments of this guitar are playing on crancked amps. Sounds amazing. Now I play it live proud and happy.

My LP never sounded better!

I picked up my 1999 LP "Classic 1960" Goldtop with the new SD WLH's installed yesterday. So far I’m really impressed. I haven’t got out of green mode on my Marshall JVM215C yet and the sounds I’m getting are great, really can hear the 70’s classic sound, IMO. My LP came stock with Gibson T500 & 496 pickups and I never found the sound I was expecting from a 60’s LP reissue. Shout out to Alastair Greene for the recommendation and Moze Guitars, San Diego for the set up.

Great sounding pickups!

I purchased a Heritage H-150 (the guitar that Wolfe’s Guitars uses time compare the Whole Lotta Humbuckers to the SD 59’s) about four years ago with these pickups installed from the factory. I bought the guitar strictly on recommendation by the salesman. Excellent choice! These things sound amazing. They have a nice “organic/woody” sound. The kids are fantastic without being over powering. Great bass sound that is definitely not muddy, and the highs are not brittle at all. To me, they are not as bright as the 59’s, but for my taste they are a much better sound overall. I get fantastic jazz tones, and when plugged into a vintage Marshall (sadly not mine) they really produce That legendary rock tone. Unless you are wanting a bright treble sound, you will be very pleased with these.
