Ed Skero: More Moore

Last Updated on October 25th, 2019

When most guitar players are asked to describe their sound, it can be a terrifying question. Not for veteran guitarist Ed Skero. His Seymour Duncan pickup selection has made him more sure of himself than ever.

“I have Seymour Duncan Antiquity pickups in my main Gibson Les Paul. When I bought a second Les Paul, I wanted to try something slightly different so I could cover a wider tonal area between the two guitars,” says heavy metal guitarist Ed Skero of Icarus Witch. The band is best known as Paul Di’Anno’s backing band for the US and Canada.

“The music that I play could be described as traditional rock and metal and the SHPG-1 Pearly Gates are perfect for achieving those sounds. This pickup is a classic style humbucker with just a little more edge, punch and brightness. A little less Paul Kossoff, a little more Gary Moore. This works really well for pushing my vintage tube amps slightly over the edge while still maintaining the tone of the guitar. This combination has allowed me to play more aggressively without losing any musical quality. I put Pearly Gates in both the bridge and neck positions and they sound great with all of my amps and pedals.”

Ed is currently in the studio experimenting with his new tone while recording the next album for his other band Shiva Skydriver.
