American-born and Aussie-raised John Butler has become a fixture on the alternative-jam-roots scene. The multi-instrumentalist front man of the John Butler Trio is adept at banjo, didgeridoo, drums and harmonica. But it’s his unique fingerstyle work with an amplifed acoustic guitar that draws praise from fans, peers and critics alike. John fits his Maton 12-string acoustic with a Seymour Duncan Mag-Mic and runs it through a Marshall JMP Super Lead and into a Marshall 4×12 speaker cabinet. The result is an acoustic guitar tone like no other. It’s pristine and clean at times and huge and dirty-distorted at others. And the Mag Mic drives it all.

According to John, “I’ve used a few different pickups through the years and the Seymour Duncan Mag Mic gives me the grunt, evenness, and clarity I need to get my sound. Thanks Seymour!”
The John Butler Trio is currently on a world tour. Evan Skopp, our Head of Artist Relations, caught up with John backstage at New York’s Madison Square Garden where, after a firey set in support of the Dave Matthews Band, John taught Evan the “secret handshake.” If you like reggae infused acoustic jam rock like you’ve never heard it before, make sure to check out the John Butler Trio immediately.
