Jeff Loomis knows what he wants to hear from his guitar, whether playing solo or as a member of Arch Enemy and Conquering Dystopia: he needs a matched pickup set that stays clear under heavy distortion, with a strong pick attack to maintain detail when he plays fast, and with enough sustain and dynamics to keep up with his advanced legato and picking techniques. That’s what he has achieved with the Seymour Duncan Jeff Loomis Blackouts set.
This active humbucker set is designed to sound more organic and dynamic, with a voicing like hot passive pickups. The bridge model is a high-output active humbucker with a spike in the mid-to-upper-mid frequencies to retain a very aggressive pick attack, and with enhanced low end to keep power chords sounding big and powerful. This allows the pickup to track fast playing very accurately without sounding thin. It’s constructed with an Alnico 5 bar magnet and steel pole pieces for clarity and power.
The neck pickup is made with Alnico 5 rod magnets for each pole, and is very articulate and responsive, with a slight bump in the treble frequencies to faithfully reproduce Jeff’s pick attack but with a reduced bass response to keep lower notes from sounding too boomy.
“I’m very excited to be a part of the Seymour Duncan family,” Jeff Loomis says. “With the addition of the new Jeff Loomis signature pickup, we’ve created a set that’s extremely rich in harmonic tones for leads and pick attack, as well as a very tight low end for rhythm playing. I believe this is the perfect pickup for my style of playing and I’m looking forward to get it out to the masses!”
Jeff Loomis Blackouts are available in Jeff’s line of signature 6 and 7-string Schecter guitars, as well as in 6 and 7-string versions. All models have black brushed nickel covers, and the 7-string versions are available in both active and passive mount.
